Description:The KU LEUVEN Centre for IT & IP Law (CiTiP) is a research unit of the Faculty of Law. The Centre is affiliated to imec (research group on security & privacy) and a member of both the Leuven Centre on ICT (LICT) and Leuven.AI. CiTiP has over thirty years of experience in conducting research into the legal and ethical aspects of innovative technologies in both the public and private sectors. The Centre currently consists of over eighty researchers involved in interdisciplinary projects funded by programs such as H2020, Marie Curie, FWO and ICON as well as through bilateral contracts. For more information regarding the Centre, please refer to the website.Candidates will hold a masters degree in law and a doctorate. They will have solid knowledge of European law. Familiarity with philosophical ethics or with science and technology studies will be considered as an important asset.The ongoing digitization and increasing automation transform society and human practices in many ways. These transformations challenge existing legal and regulatory frameworks and require appropriate governance. The selected research fellow will work on research projects related to such transformations in different domains, such as healthcare / health research, employment, and critical infrastructures.The research position involves the following tasks:Conducting fundamental and applied research in ethical and legal aspects of technological developments, often in cooperation with computer and data scientists;Acting as a point of contact for and engaging with CiTiPs partners in research programmes;Publishing research results in high quality peer-reviewed national and international journals; presenting research results at national and international meetings, conferences, seminars and workshops;Generating and pursuing original research ideas for new research projects;Engaging in science communication towards non-legal experts, stakeholders and the general public (e.g. through CiTiPs blog);Building research collaborations nationally and internationally; facilitating and participating in crosscutting research collaborations as appropriate;Contributing to the overall activities of the Centre (taking on limited educational and teaching assignments, contributing to grant applications, participating in thematic team meetings, setting up internal workshops);Coaching junior researchers and managing internal research clusters;Helping design and conducting innovative, world-class research and securing additional funding;Representing the Centre in various fora, such as expert committees, policy groups and advisory boards at national and international level.
