Janssen Research & Development seeks to bring innovative and effective treatments in six therapeutic areas of high unmet medical need. The Janssen campus in Beerse, close to Antwerp, (Belgium) has a unique ecosystem covering the complete drug development life cycle, with all capabilities from basic science to market access on one campus. Our medicinal chemistry group focusses on developing innovative small molecule therapeutics to treat diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, various types of cancers and infectious diseases like Covid, Hepatitis B, influenza etc. We are significantly expanding our team and capabilities, including investments in automated and parallel synthesis. We are looking for a highly skilled, experienced, and motivated organic or medicinal chemist to lead our parallel medicinal chemistry team.

The parallel medicinal chemistry team optimizes synthetic methods to execute automated library synthesis applying state-of-the-art synthesis including flow chemistry. The team works closely together with the medicinal chemistry project teams in the identification and optimization of new molecular entities.


Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD degree in synthetic, organic or medicinal chemistry.
  • With postdoctoral experience and 6-12 years of business experience or 3-5 years of business experience performing progressively advanced duties at Principal Scientist level or the equivalent training/experience
  • Experience in automated synthesis approaches and/or high throughput experimentation set-ups.
  • Skilled people manager (supervising junior staff, career development for direct reports...).
  • Track record of scientific contributions (peer reviewed publications in high impact factor journals, patents, oral presentations...).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, fluent in English both verbal and in writing.
  • ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Expertise or a keen interest in handling large data sets, the implementation of an IT infrastructure to drive automated library production, artificial intelligence, and/or machine learning is a plus.
