Congratulations, You Have Been Tagged
I met a woman recently. An older woman with a son that is in his mid fifties. She mentioned with sadness in her eyes that her son is home. Sick from work. He feels like he is a number. His voice does not count anymore. He cannot stand the way he is treated at work. On the other hand it is hard for him to find another job. His age is not in his advantage. Luckily he still visits his parents and talks to them. He is not isolated. During the week he gets psychological support. To cope with his challenging situation. He thinks that he will never be able to return to his workplace.
The same week I bump into two teachers in their fifties and sixties. They come up with similar stories. They are even asked by the senior management or by social workers to pretend that they are ill. They have almost no more energy left to manage the way the school works. They follow the crowd and accept the way things go. They let themselves be classified as ill. Burnouts here and there. These become more and more the current label. What is happening in the professional world today?
People have been tagged as numbers. It seems. All industry fields feel the impact. The human factor is long gone. In most companies. Profits are demanded. There is no time for warm and supportive behavior. For a lot of people this is insane. They cannot digest the way things have become. It results in broken relationships, since stress is expanding and the closest to their souls get the worst treatment. People are dying inside. Not everyone has the power to change their circumstances.
There is nothing wrong with sheep, not even with the fact that they carry a tag. They still can be sheep. Their tag does not really create worries for them. But if companies start to treat their resources as sheep, and put a tag on them, something seems clearly wrong. Listen to what people tell each other, when they bump into another and share their deepest thoughts and feelings. It is normal that so many people feel bad about their work situation? Is it really a good development that people do not feel well in their skin? In a recent article I was informed that people are also scared to change jobs.
We are losing the essence that make companies great. The passionate, driven people that want to go the extra mile. The uniqueness of human beings is at stake. Instead we want robots, that say what their bosses want to hear. Not many people dare to make a difference anymore. Congratulations to all work fields where sheep are at work. White sheep mostly and the ones that have the courage to step forward, become the black sheep. They are excluded and soon are asked to leave. And of course … There are also still excellent companies that value their staff. Let us applaud these gems for 'bee'-ing the example.
How will you create a healthier work place? Will YOU step forward?

Pascal Derrien the question is do we really need to believe that we are naive when we want a more human working environment? It is possible. Never too late to make some profound changes. Thank you for your wonderful contribution!

Pascal Derrien is right on with your comments, BBbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa by the way, I do get numerous calls by folks in their late 50's and early 60's that have had job descriptions changed by HR and then these folks are out of a job due to restructuring. Its done to protect companies big and small against Age Discrimination Suits. Very Sad to see, due to greed by many but not all companies. Because younger folks are brought in-which I am not against, they do have cheaper insurance costs, less vacation time accrued, etc. All in any effort to reduce costs. I see this all across the USA, something that is not reported in the news. I work very hard by networking these folks into other jobs through my contacts. We will see this trend continue and I predict that in years to come many folks will be 50% working as contingent workers, starting their own companies,or just working part time. sheep or goats are simply what they are, an expression of nature, thank you for your comments Preston \ud83d\udc1d Vander Ven, what seems to go against nature of humans is how they feel inside of today's company walls.
