'Good Enough Is The New Perfect'

'Good Enough Is The New Perfect'

Thé expression that made an impression on me yesterday, was this one: 'Good enough is the new perfect'. What a wisdom in one line. Maybe it is time for a change and we should replace 'Orange is the new black' by 'Good enough is the new perfect'. The good enough factor opens many healthy doors in a lifetime that makes us believe that we need to cross our boundaries many times. Time after time. Many times. Over and over again. Until we refuse do it.

What if it is wiser to take care of ourselves? What if we would manage the precious amount of energy that is a gift to us, in a more efficient and effective way? What if we would accept that we are and do good enough? Honestly, if we do the best we can, what more can be expected from us? It seems more natural, more realistic. We are humans and we need to let go of all old stories that do not serve our growth.

'Good enough' as the 'new perfect' in every level of our human being, how would that feel to ourselves? What consequences would it have for all our exchanges with others? Once we accept that we are and do 'good enough', others pick that energy up and long gone are the fantasy stories about failing and not meeting the requirements in the eyes of our fellow human beings. What matters even more, is that we consider ourselves as 'good enough' and believe it.

As if a master artist took a white paint and erased all old scenes in the bigger picture called life. The viewpoint has changed. Forever. The setting breathes new air. The master feels satisfied. His new painting looks fresher and brighter than ever before. New lines, new colors. The audience is enthusiastic. There is Always room for novelty. The painting is good enough as it has become. Curious human eyes observe it, they are not really sure about the changes, but one thought made all the difference.

What one thought could change your view on life?

One great example is weather forecast. It was Edward Lorenz who discovered the butterfly effect. A small error in measuring a parameter affecting the weather led to huge differences in weather behavior. No matter how precisely we measure there shall always be an error in measurement. No matter how small this error is it could lead to a totally different weather forecast. Same with measuring the lentgh of the British coast. Any error in measurement gives different length. Again, in human societies we have this effect. For example, a small motivating word can lead to enhancement in productivity. There is no relationship between cause and effect.

Errors are of two types Chris \ud83d\udc1d Guest. There are errors that are part of the system and can't be controlled. If we try to eliminate them then we make them worse. This is very much reflected in Deming's funnel experiment. In my previous comment I meant those errors. There are errors that aren't built in the system and mostly are human errors. Those van be handled safely. For example, typing 4500 instead of 450 can be very costly and turn things upside down. You also remind me of six-sigma and the need to remove errors. This is only to apply in simple and complicated systems, but not in complex systems as a small change may cause drastic effect. Your comment deserves a buzz on its own.

People do what they can not always what they want it’s a personal matter to achieve or reach an acceptable outcome independently of the dictatorship of the external optics 🧐

Dear - a great line indeed "Good enough is the new perfect". In complexity, and our world is progressively getting more complex, we know that it is unimportant to look for ideal or perfect solutions; more, we look for solutions that work and good enough. You are spot on.
