The Ugly Spider. A Dreadful Children's Story.

Once upon a time there was a little spider. Disgusting. Ugly as hell. Long hair. Full of dust. Dark colors. Purple eyes. Wrinkles everywhere. People better did not look at it or they were ill for days and weeks. A walking nightmare. The other spiders did not give it much attention. They just assumed it would die after some time. Even the flies would be scared to come near to such a horrible creature. But with all in life there is a reason behind the way things unfold. The spider was ugly but at the same time it had a magic gift. And it would use it to survive. It relied on its powerful spider brain to turn the tide.

Secretly it started to add a special substance to its web. Each day it worked very hard to improve its product. The other spiders saw some movement but were too busy with their own things. It is not different from the world of humans. Everyone has his or her own worries and happiness. This gave ugly spider the chance to work in peace on its project. The universe saw what was happening. The most beautiful art came to the surface. Light particles gave a golden shine to the web. It became the most stunning web of all lifetimes ever made by a spider. Certainly not by an ugly spider.

As the days passed by, some spiders were attracted by the golden glance. Moving closer. They even dared to touch the web. Then something amazing occured. They felt glorious as if they could conquer the world. They started to smile and their dreams got activated again. Their little spider soul was alive and kicking. Soon after the experience everyone in the spider city was informed about the special qualities of the little and ugly spider. The respect for little spider was rising. From other countries spiders were coming to experience the same. Little spider got famous. Not just like that.

Now the web had become like a true mirror, golden beauty, even reflecting the body of the ugly spider. The universe rewarded the ugly spider for its hard work. While the little spider watched its reflection, it started to change. The other spiders witnessed the biggest miracle in their lives: little ugly spider transformed. It became the most adorable version of a spider ever. Damn cool. Never before a spider had been so attractive. Flies all over the world booked a ticket to see it. They say that once you commit to your strengths, miracles happen. The spider took action. The outcome was its reward.

Nice buzz, as always, Liesbeth. You make some excellent points. Foremost, "don't judge a book by it's cover" -- or a spider by whether it's ugly on the outside. This is just superficiality run amok as is common in modern day society. The fact is that what really matters is on the inside -- not the outside. What really matters is in one's heart, mind and spirit. The only upside of being cast off as "ugly" or "unable" to succeed is that such unwarranted criticism might further motivate someone to try even under and persevere even longer to prove their detractors wrong. Keep buzzing with your prolific prose, Liesbeth!
