Under The Palm Tree
The old palm tree and the fresh coconut reminded him of long forgotten summers. He still had the scent of creamy sun oil in his nose. It felt as a wonderful part of his past with childhood memories getting a tan without any effort at all. The sun slowly kissed every part of his skin. Again and again. More and more. He never felt so loved before. Shadow parts entered the light easily. This year he would not spend his time under the Christmas tree. The usual presents had little meaning to him. No cold snow flakes trying to freeze his soul. Instead he had chosen to be close to the warm sun. She rewarded him for that. She gave more than she possibly could. He felt good under the palm tree. He celebrated life.
A coconut fell down in the hot sand. He watched the whole movement. In slow motion. Even nature knew when it was time to let go and be in the flow of things. A spider ran away from the coconut. Almost burned its legs in the sand. Too hot for spider legs. The spider returned to the tree and found a new home far away from the sand. He had watched the whole scene. Was amazed how quickly the spider had decided to run. The coconut was an interesting gift. He was thirsty and hungry at the same time. He took a knife and cut the coconut in pieces. With every beat of his heart he enjoyed this moment. A paradise for his senses. No mobile phone, no Facebook, set free.
She was observing him with discretion. Her christmas holidays consisted of sunbathing and reading. He was different and seemed European. Her American roots spotted the gestures of this man. Her mobile phone was covered by one of her books. The buzzing sound revealed that someone was sending her a text message. She could not answer the message yet, she was too curious about him. He felt that someone was staring at him. He allowed her to come nearer. Without saying a word, he invited her to take a piece of the coconut. She accepted the small gift. Their hands must have touched, because he felt the electricity in his veins.
She tasted the coconut. It was perfect. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the moment. He watched her while she closed her eyes. She was a gorgeous woman. Her body was divine. Was she single? He saw two towels, she had one of them. Suddenly a little girl appeared. She talked very gently to the little girl and gave her some money. Was this her daughter? The little girl came back with ice cream and took one of the towels. Thought confirmed. He heard her mother talking on the phone. She seemed in a hurry and looked unhappy. Her replies were short. When her daughter finished her ice cream, the mother made an end to the conversation.
He continued to cut the coconut in pieces. She left the beach with her little girl. The two towels left behind. Something urgent must have changed their plans. He decided to use the towels. His feet touched a small paper. A small business card. Her address on it. Her phone number too. Luckily he had no phone, otherwise he might have called her. He smiled. Intrigued by this mysterious being. From a distance she was watching him. Such a handsome man. In the air a plane was making stripes. Free as a bird. She waved a hand kiss to him while her daughter played with an ocean shell. In an instant he saw the sun making love to the sky. A secret love message was exchanged. No mobile phone involved. Under the palm tree they found love.
