Purpose of the job:


Provide active legal and contract management support to the business and projects on all legal and contract management matters within the Benelux.

Ensure that Alstom takes legal and contractual commitments with acceptable levels of risks.


ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES

Key accountabilities:


  • Provide sound level of legal advice and supervise all tenders in Benelux
  • Proactive support in claim management actions on projects under execution and more in general support contract management activities from a legal perspective
  • Ensure ontime delivery of legal reviews, legal gap analysis, legal opinions, claims files, pleadings submissions and/or other key documents produced by the legal function for the operational business
  • Draft, review and approve legal documents including but not limited to contracts, corporate documentation, and regulatory filings
  • Determine legal strategy for Benelux
  • Advise on and communicate legal risks to commercial teams
  • Organize internal (compliance) training
  • Report to headquarters on tender risk assessment
  • Appoint and liaise with external counsel and supervise litigation, arbitration and other dispute matters within Benelux
  • Managing and leading the legal organization in Benelux
  • Reporting to support Headquarters and senior leadership on legal matters

Performance measurements:


  • Quality on time delivery of support and deliverables expected.
  • Ensure acceptable legal terms and conditions are applied to our contracts

EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITES & REQUIRED COMPETENCES

Educational Requirements

  • Master in law

Experience

Mandatory:


  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in an international business environment and/or law firm (with a minimum of 5 years subsequent inhouse experience).
  • At least 5 years of team management experience
  • Sound experience in drafting and negotiating international contracts
  • Excellent legal drafting skills
  • Previous exposure to international practice through work experience
  • Excellent French, Dutch and English language and drafting skills

Desirable:


  • Additional language skills is plus
  • Experience in public tendering law is a plus
  • Experience in (long term) projects environment is a plus

  • Ability to work within the set timescales and urgency of legal matters
  • Welldeveloped ability to understand and handle complex legal and operational issues
  • Demonstrate sound legal reasoning
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills are among his/her core assets, along with a pronounced ability to deal with peers and professionals of diverse disciplines and backgrounds.
  • Willingness to take initiatives, responsibilities and challenge others.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Integrity, sound judgement and assertive personality.
  • Excellent command of French, Dutch English, including ability to draft contracts and negotiate in all three languages
