POLITICO Europe is looking to hire a policy reporter to cover sustainability, a beat at the forefront of how policymakers adapt to a changing climate, address the biodiversity crisis and try to steer Europe toward a greener economy.

You'll be jointly responsible for producing an engaging afternoon newsletter and live news updates throughout the day for our Pro subscribers.

You'll also pitch own-initiative stories to the sustainability editor, both for subscribers and for our free website and print edition - writing for an expert audience as well as the broader public.

Specific areas of coverage will include pollution (whether air, water, soil or noise); water management, scarcity and drought; critical raw materials and green technology; and sustainable finance.

You'll need to demonstrate experience of breaking news and an ability to work with colleagues both within and beyond your immediate team.

You must also have a strong track record of rigorous reporting, source-building and scoops.

This is a full-time role based in our Brussels newsroom, with some degree of remote working available according to coverage needs.

What You'll Do

Anchor the daily sustainability newsletter on a rota with two other reporters
Monitor breaking news developments and provide fast, accurate coverage
Build a broad network of sources and deliver scoops
Produce longer stories on your own initiative
Work closely with colleagues, including those on other beats
Occasionally work outside normal hours when the news agenda demands it

What You'll Need

Strong track record of news journalism
Knowledge of EU politics and policy
Demonstrable interest in sustainability policy
Written and verbal fluency in English
