The role:
Under the supervision of Campaign Director, the Policy Assistant will support our campaign team in Oceana in Europe.

In close coordination with the campaign team, the Policy Assistant will provide support to Campaigns and will manage a variety of projects as well as contribute to Oceana in Europe communications and advocacy.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead of the Oceana in Europe campaigns with communications, research, policy, or logístical tasks.
  • Conduct research on marine issues, technical and policy content, as needed.
  • Review and prepare communication materials for use online and in the media (e.g., social media content, press releases, opeds, blogs, videos).
  • Organise and participate in (online) workshops organised by Oceana in Europe with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate daily with the campaign lead or other Oceana in Europe colleagues to ensure consistent and timely messaging, as well as fully leveraging Oceana in Europe's website, deliverables, and resources.
  • Stay abreast of ocean news, current social media trends, and new opportunities and propose informed ideas to support Oceana in Europe's campaign communications.
  • Complete any other function within the scope that their supervisor may request.

Education and work experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in marine science, legal, politics, or other relevant disciplines.
  • At least 1 year of experience in legal, scientific research, policy and/or communications functions with similar responsibilities, preferably acquired in an international organization.
  • Knowledge of marine issues and of policies to address it.
  • Experience in an international nonprofit preferred.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Native (or C1 equivalent) English. Additional languages are a plus.
  • Excellent writing skills, to be able to deliver campaign messaging to different audiences on various platforms (Oceana in Europe website, social media, press releases).
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Teamwork and organisational alignment.
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Achievement focus.
  • An active listener with strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must be proactive and actively engage fellow colleagues to coordinate actions, assemble and verify information.
  • Datadriven and experienced in researching complex topics.
  • Does not feel intimidated by multitasking or working on more than one project at once.
  • Genuine interest in ocean conservation and knowledge of EU (European Union) policy.
- _Oceana's offices in Europe operate on a hybrid schedule and employees are required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, while the employees may work from home on Monday and Friday_.
