To strengthen our Pharma Sciences (PS)

Product Material Orientation department, based in Braine-l'Alleud (Belgium), we are looking to fill the position of
:
Solid State Senior Subject Matter Expert.

The
Solid State Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) is accountable for:

  • Leading and running assigned project work packages/transversal activities.
  • Contributing to project subteam (DS, DP or Analytical) as Senior SME representing own area of expertise and actively contributing to the elaboration of project strategy.
  • Working autonomously to coordinate and manage activities internally and/or externally to deliver work packages with different of level of complexity and to design, plan, perform, interpret and report results of experiments in time to influence strategic project decisions and recommend next steps.
  • Contributing to setting and delivering departmental goals & priorities.
  • Acting as key enabler supporting the advancement of Pharma Science's Science & Technology and Innovation projects by leveraging own area of expertise to lead functional initiatives and contribute to PS transversal initiatives.

The
Solid State Senior SME will contribute by:

  • Being a leader in solid state science to drive overall CMC Development in order to obtain the right drug for every patient.
  • Providing solid state support for development projects at an early stage, which implies polymorph studies, salt or cocrystal screenings and solid form recommendation.
  • Participating to the Drug Substance and Drug Product process and product development, thereby leading all solid state aspects, including amorphous formulations.
  • Collaborating with the Drug Substance function on the crystallization development, in particular chiral resolution processes.
  • Acting as an expert in physical chemistry, more specifically regarding phase diagrams and thermal behavior, at all stages of product lifecycle.
  • Performing experiments in the laboratory.
  • Developing innovative physical analysis methods in the abovementioned fields.
  • Managing specific analytical instruments as key user and drive GMP qualification when appropriate.
  • Keeping track of literature and state of the art scientific practices and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Communicating with stakeholders and external partners (universities, centers of expertise,)
  • Writing reports and give internal and external presentations.

Interested? For this position you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

  • Degree (Master/PhD) in chemistry, with preference for physical chemistry or analytical chemistry.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in pharmaceutical development and/or manufacturing depending on qualification level.
  • Expertise in solid state science within pharmaceutical development, both on the DS and the DP side.
  • Knowledge of relevant analytical techniques such as: Xray Diffraction, Thermal Analysis, Dynamic Vapour Sorption, Optical Microscopy, Small scale crystallization systems,
  • Experience in GMP environment and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in authoring source documents and/or regulatory modules.
  • Very good command in English (both written and spoken).
