Role Overview

In order to reinforce its thermoplastic composite development activities, the Solvay Material Science Application Center (MSAC) is interested in hiring an intern.

The position will be a full time contract for a duration of six months at our Solvay Campus located in Brussels - Belgium.

The primary responsibility of the Intern will be to analyze parts manufactured by stamp forming process and study the relation between the observed defects and the process parameters for continuous reinforced thermoplastic composites.

The work is in the frame of a R&D project for the aerospace and automotive industries.

As an Intern You Will

Respect all safety, health and environmental guidelines, according to site and company standards and ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines in all areas of responsibilities, including lab facilities and testing equipment. Promote safety behavior according to the above guidelines.
Work autonomously to define the Internship project plan (objectives, deliverables, deadlines,), its management and its execution.
Regularly interact with colleagues to:
1. present project status;
2. make sure the project remains aligned with the needs of Solvay and the project team; 3. obtain the support needed to advance, and;
4. organize a final presentation to share relevant conclusions, recommendations for further work and appropriate changes of direction.
5. Act as a critical technical & scientific interface between the human and technical lab resources and Solvay's research teams.

Education and skills

Masterlevel student in material science; knowledge and practice of mechanical testing and manufacturing basics would be greatly appreciated.
Good experience/knowledge of the mechanical properties of polymers and composites.
Be able to work independently and effectively in different areas related to physicochemical behavior of polymers and composites.
Strong analytical skills and high capacity to summarize results
Good communication skills (oral and written)
Customer and quality oriented attitude.
Capacity to collaborate with people coming from an international environment.
Effective oral and written English skills, and other languages (especially French) are an asset.
