About the Role

  • Barry Callebaut has positioned itself as a strong innovator in cocoa and chocolate products. Being one of the company's strategic pillars, innovation contributes to attracting and retaining customers and supporting our company's SMART growth strategy developing marginaccretive new product innovations to increase our EBIT.
  • Global R&D drives the mid to longterm strategic R&D and Innovation agenda for the Barry Callebaut Group. The objective of the function is focused on contributing to On Time In Full delivery of innovation projects from idea or concept until ready for market launch. The Global R&D Technical Project Lead typically takes the full technical lead over projects with high strategic importance or leads one or more work streams of these strategically important projects. The Global R&D Technical Project Lead coordinates a multidisciplinary project team to reach full delivery of projects on time. The Global R&D Technical Project Lead is responsible to direct global knowledge and to generate enabling ingredient, material, and processing technologies that can directly or indirectly drive product innovation at Barry Callebaut, in line with the corporate strategy and business opportunities to deliver the innovations of the future. The Global R&D Technical Project Lead might have line management responsibility over Global R&D Project Managers or Global R&D support.
    Key Responsibilities Include
  • The Technical Project Lead typically takes the full technical lead over projects with high strategic importance or leads one or more work streams of these strategically important projects.
- coordinates a multidisciplinary project team to reach full delivery of projects on time.
- is focused on implementing new ingredients and technologies from the capability phase.
- is responsible for Risk Management.
- works with a high level of autonomy and may have line management responsibility to coordinate the execution of all actions to be taken for the development, testing, and validation of technological hypotheses and generation of new scientific insights.
- may have line management responsibilities and coach and develops team members, and decides on the allocation of resources to meet agreed project objectives and timelines.
- presents to senior management and is highly involved with stakeholder consultation and in steering committee updates.
- is responsible for research in cooperation with external partners (knowledge and research centers) and establishes and maintains relationships with external scientific communities.
- manages collaboration with multiple 3rd parties (including manufacturing and outsourcing partners) within agreed timelines, budgets, and according to food safety standards.
- safeguards Barry Callebaut's intellectual property rights in interaction with internal and external departments and parties.
- manages the interface with Regional R&D/Operations/Procurement to ensure project handover to manufacturing, launch to the market, and subsequent rollout.
- manages the R&D project budget.


About You

  • Master's degree level in a Science or Engineering discipline, preferably with strong experience in the Food Industry
  • Min. 5 years of experience in a relevant industry or research environment
  • Prior experience in chocolate and/or cocoa would be desirable
  • Experience in project management, preferably in a multistakeholder environment
  • Leadership and autonomy in the daytoday job
  • People management and development
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, and listening skills resulting in good stakeholder management
  • Fluent in English
  • Leverage technology for innovation: strong intellectual curiosity with an appetite for exploring new and previously uncharted territories and an openness to change and the ability to think out of the box.
  • Drive to deliver: resultsoriented, entrepreneurial and selfmotivated with solid planning and organizational capabilities and the capability to define, evaluate and take risks.
