Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) 1


The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office's (FCDO) diplomatic missions in the Benelux, part of a world-wide network of over 230 Posts representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas, are now looking for a full-time Community Liaison Officer (CLO), to join Corporate Services Benelux (CSB).

We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Community Liaison Officer who will make a real difference to welfare, well-being and morale by supporting all Staff and dependants on the Brussels and Luxembourg platforms, prepare for, settle into and face the challenges of life in a new environment.


The main purpose of this job is to provide leadership and advice in the delivery of CLO support to the UK diplomatic community, primarily in areas of welfare, communication and encouragement of community integration.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience - Recent experience of the issues faced by staff and families moving to live overseas;

  • Fluent level of English (C1 level*);
  • Strong and persuasive communication skills (both oral and written);
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision; well organised; committed and able to problem solve;
  • Strategic focus;
  • IT proficiency in Outlook, Excel and Word;
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from any background;
  • Ability to handle personal information confidentially and with discretion;
  • Confident in influencing and giving feedback, including to senior staff;
  • Customer facing work experience;
  • Experience of living and working overseas.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience 1


Desirable:


  • Familiar with living in Belgium;
  • Knowledge of how an Embassy works;
  • Staff management;
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside of regular office hours;
  • Experience with education systems;
  • French and/or Dutch language skills.
