Chief Financial Officer, Europe


Overview:


The CFO is the finance leader, responsible for all financial aspects of the Region, and partnering with the Europe Management Team in making key decisions.

Reporting to the CFO, International Markets and the Region President of MasterCard Europe, he/she is responsible for Financial Reporting and Controls, Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial processes, Planning and Objective Setting, and Business Partner support including Customer Business Agreements.

The CFO is also responsible for local leadership of other finance team members in region who report up to the corporate finance business units such as Procurement, Facilities, Treasury and M&A.

He/she interfaces regularly with Senior Finance Executives, such as the Corporate Controller, Corporate FPA Head and Corporate CFO.


Role:
Financial Reporting and Control Environment

  • Ensures the integrity and accuracy of the financial statements in partnership with the Global Business Service Center for US GAAP, statutory and regulatory, and internal management reporting.
  • Ensures a strong control environment for the region by establishing, monitoring and enforcing operational and SOX controls based on corporate guidelines and general governance standards. Supports and challenges managers to identify areas where controls can be strengthened.
  • Guides financial decisions related to business transactions, including acquisitions and investments by providing local accounting/regulatory advice and by monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures; works with Corporate Controllers team to ensure technical accounting issues are identified and appropriately addressed
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with internal, statutory and regulatory requirements; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions
  • Understands and collaborates with Corporate Tax Department on the resolution of relevant tax issues
Financial Planning & Analysis - Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Leads Budgeting, Forecasting and financial reporting, and development of consolidated information for the Region
  • Prepares and manages annual budgets, periodic forecasts of revenue and expenses, capital, and cash flows, and establishes realistic performance standards
  • Reviews and explains significant variances from prior period actuals, budgets, and forecasts in a timely manner
  • Leads the annual planning process
  • Manages short and longrange financial planning and capital forecasting
  • Manages coordination of results reporting to International Markets Group
Financial Analysis

  • Manages and/or conducts Financial Analyses (e.g., product/customer profitability analysis)
  • Leads ad hoc research/special projects, and issues reports
  • In partnership with Corporate M&A and other business units, provides insights and financial analysis of new business ventures and acquisitions
  • Provides financial analysis related to customer planning activities such as incentives and Customer Business Agreements ensuring that business cases for these agreements are financially sound
Financial Processes

  • Leads the development and implementation of streamlined processes to manage the financial needs of the Region
  • Responsible for the review and proper execution of all contracts with financial implications including supplier relationships and external partnerships
  • Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of costeffective controls to promote data integrity and minimize risk (financial, operational, legal, regulatory, etc.)
  • Develops insight into internal and external corporate governance and business issues
  • Develops a working understanding of current and emerging product lines, services, and programs
  • Maintains key financerelated relationships with other Business Units, Corporate Finance, and external parties
Planning and Objectives

  • Partners with the Business Unit leader, International Markets and other areas of the corporation to formulate and implement Business Unit strategy.
  • Works with Business Unit leaders to set objectives and develop plans and establish KPIs.
  • Teams with the Business Unit leader to evaluate potential business relationships
