Advisor on Research Data Management and Ethics.
For a one-year full-time fixed-term contract
Context:
The ULB Liaison Office within the ULB Research Department is acting as a proxy, supporting researchers along the entire lifecycle of their research projects and taking the role of an intermediary between research teams & funding agencies, national contact points, and other university services.
Research data management (RDM) is a set of actions aimed at ensuring that the data produced in a research project are FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and re-usable) and that data are "as open as possible, as closed as necessary" (Open Science principle in terms of data).
The Advisor on Research Data Management and Ethics should support researchers on 1) all aspects of research data management (data management plan (DMP), data collection, data storage, data sharing, and data archiving), 2) the ethical aspects involved in research projects in all research fields (life sciences, social sciences and humanities, exact sciences & engineering).
Essential tasks:
To support and advise researchers on all aspects of research data management;
To support and advise researchers on the ethical aspects of research projects in all research fields (life sciences, social sciences and humanities, exact sciences & engineering);
To ensure constant monitoring of the regulations of the various funders in terms of research data management and ethics, and to ensure compliance with these rules and procedures, in particular, with the rules and procedures of the European Commission;
To pursue the existing training and to promote good practices on research data management and awareness of data policies, in all research fields;
To develop and provide training on ethical aspects in all research fields;
To work in close collaboration with all ULB actors having a direct or indirect link with research data management and ethics, in particular the Research Department, the Data Protection Office, the Libraries, the IT Department, the Doctorate Support Unit and the Faculties;
To collaborate with actors outside the ULB in the field of research data management and ethics;
To complete and update the ULB Research Data Management website;
To manage activities related to the Data Ambassadors project which includes all French-speaking universities.
Profile:
Hold a Master's degree, with an academic research experience and recognized by the FWB.
General knowledge and skills:
Proficiency in MS Office software
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken French and English
Good understanding of the organisation of a university (faculties, research institutes, support services such as Libraries, Research Department)
Ability to plan, organize work and prioritize requests
Specific knowledge and skills:
Proven experience in research data management (e.g. DMP, data collection, data analysis, storage, data archiving, data sharing, open data, big data, etc.)
Knowledge of ethical aspects in research projects, especially those funded by the European Commission
Ability to understand and communicate with researchers from different disciplines and to provide convincing arguments on the benefits of good research data management and ethics compliance
