The Design Technology Department

The design process and practical skills are highly valued at BSB, and that is why we have invested enormously in state-of-the-art Design and Technology workshops which are second to none.

3D printing, laser and vinyl cutters, a CNC Router, a lathe and milling machine and a dedicated computer suite make up the advanced computer-aided engineering facilities.

The three purpose-built multi-media workshops are supported by a heat treatment area for brazing / welding / forging and casting facilities, whilst lathes for both wood and metal and a spray room support the ambitious student projects.

The light and spacious rooms are a pleasure to teach in and encourage fresh and exciting ideas.

Design and Technology in the classroom

A strong curriculum base for Resistant Material Technology (woods/metals/plastics) and Product Design already exists and we seek a person who is practical and able to teach a range of existing design and make projects with the existing team of teachers.

At KS3, focused design and practical tasks are used to develop the students' understanding of a design process, which leads to an individual design challenge where the student takes the lead.

Students can design and develop their ideas using wood, metal, plastics and compliant materials. Class sizes are up to 16 students per class.
