Function

As an Extra High-Voltage System Developer you will develop the architecture of the extra high-voltage grid so that the future grid can continue to function optimally in the light of the enormous challenges that will arise in the decades ahead: market integration, national security of supply and the large-scale integration of renewables.

Specifically, you will, in collaboration with internal and external partners, seek out creative and robust solutions (upgrading the 380 kV network, new interconnectors, an offshore HVDC network, changes in market forces, etc.) to address these issues, taking into account the ambitions of European and Belgian governments and Elia's strategies in terms of financing, asset management, safety, the environment, etc.

Accordingly, you will be responsible for defining, preparing for approval and monitoring the portfolio of infrastructure projects.

More specifically, this role involves the following duties and responsibilities:

You will proactively stay in touch with various internal and external stakeholders (experts on security of supply, market and grid experts, customer relations, customers, transmission system operators, interest groups, regulators, government agencies, etc.) in order to be able to correctly assess their needs with respect to the developments of the 380 kV grid in the short, medium and long term.

Taking account of resources and strategies, you will translate these needs into a technically and economically sound (cost-benefit analysis) comprehensive plan of attack, which you will document and also defend internally.

After approval, you will ensure the launch of the logical parts of this comprehensive plan in due course on the basis of a functional detailed description (including technical scope, timing, budgets) that meets the stated needs and constraints.

During the subsequent definition phase, you will work on the further elaboration of the various parts of the project by Infrastructure.

You will formulate clear arguments in favour of these projects and will defend the portfolio vis-à-vis internal and external stakeholders.

You will proactively assess possible risks and bottlenecks and will try to anticipate them.

Your arguments will make an essential contribution to the drafting of the Federal Development Plan that Elia submits to the minister for approval.

You will check the consistency of your portfolio and adapt it where necessary based on feedback on project implementation (technical scope, timing, budget) and any changes in external parameters (connection confirmations, actual changes in the energy mix, etc.).

You will play an active role, both nationally and internationally, in drawing up long-term network development plans (Federal Development Plan, Ten Year Network Development Plan) or as an expert for the revision of certain European regulations.

You will develop your skills and the company's know-how by contributing to or coordinating research and development projects.

You will accumulate technical and economic expertise relating to investment projects and act as an adviser in various working groups.

For example, you will represent Elia in one or more working groups associated with ENTSO-e's System Development Committee.

Your Profile

You hold a degree in industrial or civil engineering (in electricity, electromechanics, mechanics or electronics).
You have initial professional experience in project development/project management.
You take a crosscutting approach and are strong in stakeholder involvement.
You have strong analytical skills and are good at forming economic judgements.
You show initiative and can work independently.
You work well in a team, have good people skills and are a persuasive communicator (both orally and in writing).
You have a perfect command of Dutch (or French) and a sound grasp of French (or Dutch) and English.
