Alaâ Saadane

After being graduated with a master’s degree in Chemical Sciences, I was granted the opportunity to undertake a PhD thesis in the Laboratoire de Chimie Organique (LCO) as a FRIA fellow, under the supervision of Professor Gwilherm Evano. This experience enabled me to autonomously dedicated myself to various research while developing new skills and broadening my knowledge. At the end of my PhD, a new opportunity to develop and improve my skills has been offered to me in the form of a Postdoctoral researcher in collaboration with Oril industrie. 

During these experiences, I could understand the importance of developing robust, reliable and reproductible chemical process but also how important it is to be accurate, rigorous, meticulous and organized. I also had the opportunity to collaborate with academic and industrial people which not only allowed me to share and learn from my colleagues but also to improve my communication skills and perceive the importance of teamwork to attain our common goal. 

My contract coming to an end, I am now looking for a new opportunity.

Postdoctoral researcher (ULB - Oril industrie)

• Development of multiple processes to access valuable products. 
• Delivering monthly report and presentation. 
• Assistance of junior researchers, providing guidance and support.

PhD in Organic Chemistry

• Development of an efficient and straightforward approach to access molecules of high importance in medicinal chemistry and agrochemistry / Patent, publication and review in preparation. 
• Supervision of 2 master students (in 2020 and 2021, 6 months each) / Assistance and support during their experimental work and their master report / Security check during their experimental work.

Laboratory supervisor

• Assistance and guidance for student to give them better understanding of chemical processes happening during experiments.
• Security check during their experimental work.

R&D intern

• Late-stage functionalization of (hetero)arenes

During my PhD thesis in the Laboratoire de Chimie Organique as a FRIA fellow, I have explored a surprinsingly understudied reaction : the double SN2' reaction. This experience allowed me to develop and improve my soft skills but also to undersgtand how important it is to balance knowledge and rigor with creativity and inventiveness.
