RATISH RAMAN

Biomedical researcher working in zebrafish skeletal research area, soon to finish Ph.D. (Marie Curie research fellow in ITN project BIOMEDAQU) from the University of Liege, Belgium. I have experience working in different research disciplines and collaborated with various experts in the respective field before my Ph.D. and also during my doctoral research project. I have been grateful for a hand few publications to my credit.

I am searching for suitable openings that would be a place to give back from my broad scientific experience and also learn inorder to be able to grow and contribute to the organization.

I am soon finishing my Doctoral studies that I have been performing since November 2018 as an Early-Stage Researcher (ESR) in the MSCA-ITN EU Funded Project BIOMEDAQU at the GIGA Research Centre, Laboratory of Organogenesis and Regeneration, University of Liege, Belgium . 

Brief about Ph.D. topic: My Doctoral Research involves in characterizing and elucidating the role of genes that encode bone extracellular matrix proteins in skeletal development of zebrafish. Those of which were identified from our zebrafish osteoblast specific transcriptomic data at an early stage. To our surprise, some of those genes had an overlap with the finding from our collaborator ARTIALIS, wherein they found some proteins that were identified in human OA (osteoarthritic patients) urine and serum. Currently, they are being developed as a biomarker for screening patients with osteoarthritis.

Handling and maintaining zebrafish generating mutant zebrafish lines, isolation of live cells from larvae, FACS sorting, performing purification of RNA & making RNA libraries for RNA sequencing, in situ hybridization, DNA and RNA isolation, Phenotypic validation of mutant lines at early development stage and in adults, preparing samples for ScRNA seq., RT-PCR, real-time PCR.

I am responsible for:

✓ Initiated collaborations and maintained existing ones. Performed relevant data generation and analysis
✓ Developed and execute scientific projects 
✓ Effectively performed laboratory work
✓ Published new findings in 1 research paper and working on two more manuscripts.
