Ward Dermaut

As a freelance 3D artist, I create unique stylized characters for various projects and clients. I have a bachelor's degree in 3D animation from Howest, and another bachelor's degree in visual design from LUCA School of Arts. 

I have a good understanding of the animation production pipeline, from design to making a model ready for rigging, with topology optimized for animation. I also have skills in character design, general 3D modeling, texturing, and lighting. I enjoy collaborating with other artists and animators, and I am always eager to learn new techniques and tools. My goal is to produce high-quality and expressive 3D characters that bring stories to life.

During my final year at Digital Arts & Entertainment, I completed an internship abroad at Puppetworks Animation Studio, where I was part of the asset team. My responsibilities included creating character models, texturing, and modeling various assets and environment pieces. After my internship, I began working as a freelance 3D artist for various clients and studios, primarily focusing on 3D Modeling for animation projects, as well as mobile and indie game projects.

I studied Visual Design at LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, where I had courses ranging from graphic design to digital illustration and animation. This diverse experience sparked my interest in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. To further this goal, I earned a second bachelor’s degree in 3D Animation from Digital Arts & Entertainment. During these studies, I gained comprehensive knowledge of the entire 3D production pipeline, from concepting and drawing to creating high-quality 3D models and implementing them into their respective pipelines. It was here that I discovered my passion for 3D modeling, particularly in crafting characters for games and animation.
