    We are looking for a Head of Health, Safety and Environment Belgium to join our Internal Manufacturing team, in Braine-l'Alleud.

    About the role

    The Head of Health, Safety, and Environment Belgium plays a pivotal role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental sustainability of our dynamic and multifaceted organization. The role primary purpose will be to lead, strategize, and drive initiatives that cultivate a culture of safety, health, and environmental responsibility throughout all research, development, manufacturing, and administrative activities at UCB's large and complex Biopharma campus in Braine-l'Alleud, as well as at our Headquarters in Anderlecht and our satellite Research site in Leuven.

    Who you'll work with

    Reporting directly to the Head of Braine-l'Alleud Campus, this role involves the management of a dedicated team of around 40 HSE professionals and the oversight of the company occupational health team.

    Collaborating closely with the Global HSE department, you will have the opportunity to shape and enhance HSE standards, practices, and impact within our organization.

    What you'll do

    The major accountabilities of the Head of HSE Belgium include, but are not limited to:

    Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and inspire a team of around 40 highly skilled and diverse HSE professionals to foster a culture of safety, health, and environmental consciousness within the organization in Belgium.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to the HSE team, ensuring their continuous growth and effectiveness.
  • Create a collaborative and inclusive working environment that encourages innovation and proactive problem-solving.
  • HSE Strategy and Implementation:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive HSE strategy tailored to the unique challenges of a Biopharma site, aligning with global HSE goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive the development and execution of robust safety, health, and environmental programs, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks and promote compliance.
  • Monitor and continuously improve the effectiveness of HSE initiatives, ensuring that they meet or exceed industry best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Occupational Health Management:

  • Oversee the management of the company infirmary, ensuring the provision of high-quality medical care and occupational health services to employees.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure the timely and effective treatment of workplace injuries, illnesses, and emergencies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external medical resources to enhance the health and well-being of our workforce.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

  • Foster strong collaboration with the global HSE department to share best practices, align strategies, and contribute to the development of a consistent, companywide HSE culture.
  • Effectively communicate HSE expectations, goals, and progress to all levels of the organization, promoting transparency and accountability.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, industry associations, and community stakeholders to stay informed of the latest HSE trends and regulations.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by championing innovation and HSE excellence.
  • Identify opportunities for technological advancements and efficiency gains in HSE practices.
  • Implement metrics and KPIs to measure the impact of HSE efforts and drive data-driven decision-making.

  • Master's Degree and a certification in Prevention/Safety Advisor – Level 1 (Must Have)
  • Expertise and at least 5 years' experience in HSE regulations for the Biopharma industry.
  • A comprehensive background in multifaceted industrial settings, including substantial experience in overseeing operational activities, business processes, and diverse teams, while also managing complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong leadership with a track record of building high-performing teams and fostering a safety culture.
  • Change management expert, driving commitment to HSE values.
  • Strategic thinker capable of developing and executing comprehensive HSE strategies aligned with global standards.
  • Exceptional communicator in French and English, adept at conveying complex HSE concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Problem-solver skilled at identifying and resolving complex HSE challenges with innovative solutions.
  • Collaborative approach, excelling in cross-functional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Data-driven decision-maker, leveraging analytics to improve HSE initiatives.
  • High adaptability in a rapidly evolving field, embracing new technologies, practices, and regulations.
