PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Develop hardware electrical or electronic components (electronic boards or modules, electrical wiring of electronic products or subrack or cubicle)

Note:

  • Hardware Designer can also be FPGA Designer (EN-HA05) and rarely Mechanical Designer (EN-HA04)
  • Hardware Designer can be specialized on a subset of responsibilities:
  • PCB Designer
  • Component Engineer

MAIN RESPONSABILITIES

Key accountabilities:

  • Elaborate or contribute to the elaboration of Hardware (Hw) specification & architecture, in collaboration with the HW architect
  • Perform development of HW components:
  • Perform the detailed specification and design of the Hw components, describing technical choices and verifying by analysis (computations, models, simulation or mock-up) the compliance to input requirements.
  • Define the general plans for mechanical parts together with Mechanical Designers
  • Select the materials and electric/electronic/electromechanical parts. This activity can be in conjunction with a Component Technologist.
  • Design the electrical schematics and produce associated Bill of Material
  • Define the placement and routing constraints for electronic boards
  • Evaluate the thermal performances together with Thermal Engineers
  • Optionally defines the interfaces of the programmable components (FPGA
  • Field-Programmable Gate Array), CPLD
  • Complex Programmable Logic Devices) together with FPGA Designers.
  • Performs or follow the realization of the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design and definition file. This activity can be under responsibility of another HW designer specialized in PCB Design.
  • Ensure that the design can be manufactured, tested and repaired, together with industrialization teams
  • Follow the realization of the prototypes made by industrialization team and check them
  • Design and implement the firmware / SW necessary for HW component tests or specifies the softwares to be developed
  • Specify, design, prepare and perform HW components and work products verifications (including tests)
  • Put the Hardware work product under configuration management according to product Configuration Management Plan
  • Support the Hw/ Hw and Hw/Sw integration, together with the HW Architect and SW designer
  • Support the Hw validation of the product including environmental qualification and type tests
  • Sustain the Hw
  • Analyze incident coming from field return, production, contribute to their resolution and propose design improvement solutions
  • Analyze impact of obsolete component (product discontinuation) and propose replacement solutions. This activity can be in conjunction with a Component Technologist
  • Perform the modification of the design
  • Analyze impact of change, update the documentation and perform non regression verification activities
  • Remain informed of the evolution of technologies through techno watch
  • Through his / her activities, contribute to standardization by reusing existing solutions or by implementing reusable solutions
  • Contribute to continuous improvement (RoE
  • Return on Experience, process)
  • Ensures reporting of its activities to the HW Architect

As a Component Engineer:

  • Support introduction of new component by assessing the solution on the market, considering all the criteria of component selection (quality, perennity, cost, lead time, multisource, reliability, design for manufacturing)
  • Support obsolescence management by searching and evaluating equivalence of alternative parts, and contribute to the decision between storage and redesign
  • Support preventive obsolescence management by periodically evaluating impact of future obsolescence. Evaluate perennity of a product
  • Support manufacturing, repair or field return root cause analysis when issue identified at component level
  • Perform survey of component market in liaise with sourcing
  • Optionally drives external supplier design for obsolescence solutions (interposers)

Performance measurements:

  • Actual vs planned number of development runs
  • On-Time Delivery
  • Number of nondetected issue, detected after end of component verification

MAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCES

Educational Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Master's Degree in Electronics Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering with 10+ year of experience in the domain

Experience

Mandatory:

  • Experience of Electronic development
