The WWF European Policy Office is seeking a full time "Policy Officer, Sustainable Farming" who will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the WWF policy positions and/or strategies which aims at advocating for a sustainable farming policy in the EU.

S/he guides and provides advice to the WWF EU agriculture and food group.

Main responsibilities:

Strategy development and implementation

  • Develops a longterm European wide strategy and supports the WWF communication team to develop a comprehensive public engagement strategy for achieving a policy for a sustainable farming system in Europe;
  • Liaises with, coordinates and provides policy advice to the European WWF network offices and the various working groups on the set up and/or implementation of key agriculture and food related files defined as priority areas of work in the WWF strategy on sustainable farming with the aim of agreeing on joint positions, strategies and tactics for sustainable farming in Europe;
  • Leads and guides the implementation of the sustainable farming strategy and by doing so coordinates and provides policy advice to key working groups of WWF working on agriculture and/or food;
  • Engages with the WWF International food systems practice core group as well as other practices such as markets, governance and finance in order to secure a good integration of European farming and food particularities in the WWF global strategies.

External representation

  • Advocates WWF recommendations directly with politicians, key decision makers and stakeholders based in Brussels in the field of sustainable farming in Europe (which can include agriculture and food related files);
  • Engages and coordinates with other NGOs and think tanks at the international and European level in respect of sustainable food (which can include agriculture and food related files);
  • Establishes relations with relevant businesses and other important stakeholders active at EU level with the aim of finding common positions to include in WWF's advocacy work;
  • Represents WWF at key conferences, high level events and meetings with the European institutions and where adequate EU Member States.

Fundraising and project management

  • Proactively engages in fundraising to build sufficient capacity in EPO and the network;
  • Obtains and collates information as required, and drafts materials (e.g. briefings, reports and information materials) to publication standard;
  • Ensures compliance to standards, both internal and external, for all projects and conservation activities;
  • Carries out the activities within budget to implement the strategy.

What you need:

Required Qualifications:


  • A university degree in the field of landuse, agriculture, food, political science or related disciplines;
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience of working on, and understanding the complexities of EU decisionmaking processes and/or EU political advocacy;
  • Preferably practical experience at farm level and/or in the food industry.

Required Skills and Competencies:


  • Excellent analytical, lobby, advocacy and presentation skills;
  • Proven ability to act as organizational spokesperson and interact effectively with government representatives, experience in interacting with business would be a strong advantage;
  • Strong networking and team building skills appropriate for a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and an ability to communicate complicated messages authoritatively and clearly to different audiences including through written materials, onetoone meetings and presentations; working proficiency in other languages would be an asset;
  • A firm commitment to WWF's mission and its values: courage, integrity, respect, collaboration.
  • Fundraising experience would be an asset.
