Research Manager Strain Development, you play a crucial role in driving our ambitions by developing and optimizing strains (microbial chassis) for high-performance protein production. Key Accountabilities

You lead the development and optimization of microbes for protein production

  • You lead the development and optimization of microbes for protein production, crafting tailored host systems (yeast, prokaryotes, or filamentous fungi) that excel during scaleup.
  • You construct genetically engineered chassis to enhance protein production and evaluate the performance of newly developed strains, identifying limitations and implementing strategies for improvement.
  • You utilize omics and modeling technologies to troubleshoot and optimize our designed systems, achieving superior protein production through enhanced expression, folding, modification, secretion, and host physiology.
  • You foster strong connections within our team and collaborate with other teams, including precision fermentation, traditional fermentation, and business units, to collectively achieve our goals.

You will take charge of managing international collaboration projects

  • You establish and maintain a network of contacts within universities and institutions, seeking potential partners for new chassis/hosts for protein production.
  • You manage collaborations, from setting up agreements to organizing meetings and reporting.
  • You explore funding opportunities and managing subcontracting of new activities within the main fields.
Additionally, you will contribute to the growth of future talents by identifying and managing student internships.

As part of the department's common tasks, you assist in "New Functional Protein Discovery" projects by analyzing and communicating data in cross-functional teams, participating in laboratory operations, and promoting the 5S method for a well-organized work environment.


Who are we looking for?

  • You have a Master with 3 years of experience, PhD or equivalent research experience in microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology or related field preferred
  • You have gathered deep knowledge in
    heterologous enzyme/protein expression and knowhow in different microbes (bacteria_, _yeasts and fungi)
  • You have a prior experience with
    metabolic engineering of microbial strains:
  • You know how to work with bioinformatics data analysis for strain optimization (omics techniques)
  • You think problem solving with a "can do" approach with great project management and organizational skills.
  • You have the ability to work independently as well as part of a multifunctional study team.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and French
