We are looking for a
(Associate) Scientist who is
team player, hands-on and solutions minded to join us in our
Pharma Sciences Process R&D team, based in
Braine-l'Alleud,
Belgium.



About the role

  • This is a
    laboratorybased technical function requiring practical synthetic organic chemistry expertise aimed at route selection, process research & development, and scaleup activities.
  • The main responsibility of the (Associate)

Scientist is to:

plan, execute and control the synthesis of requested molecules (delay, quantity, quality) according to and within the mission of a Chemical Development team.


What you'll do:


  • Identification and definition of specific analytical tests in order to facilitate effective process development and ensure optimum product quality.
  • Supply of impurities related to the processes.
  • Preparation of documentation related to chemical process for patent protection and technology transfer to either the Pilot Plant or CROs/CMOs.
  • Good record keeping with respect to all laboratory, kilolaboratory and pilot plant activities, particularly regarding patentability & cGMP requirements.
  • Good literature survey on the projects by using all available research methods and tools.
  • Full compliance with all departmental and sitespecific Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality regulations, systems and procedures covering laboratory and scaleup activities. Additional requirement of full compliance with all UCB business policies and guidelines.

education, experience
and
skills

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Industrial Engineering in Chemistry preferred or related fields.
  • At least 2 years of industrial experience in a process chemistry environment in Pharma or Fine Chemical industry.
  • Strong knowledge in general organic chemistry both theoretical and practical.
  • Experience in ensuring that all developed processes can be scaled up to a 60L reactor and perform the syntheses at this scale in the Kilolab.
  • Experience in a GMP environment and in transferring to the Pilot Plant.
  • Good understanding of the results, good record keeping and reporting with respect to technical activities.
  • Very good command in both French and English.

Soft skills:

  • Able to
    help and advice the other team members (technicians, junior scientists) in their daytoday work.
  • Able to
    find technical solutions and activate all appropriate internal /external experts to solve the issue.
  • Demonstrated ability to
    participate in the communication and information exchanges with medicinal chemistry, other Pharma Sciences functions, and Center of Expertise development teams.
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to
    balance multiple priorities.
