YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research
  • You will assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor's or Master's level
  • You will counsel Master students in their exercises, work placement and Master's dissertation
  • You will assist doctoral students in the field of ophthalmology
  • You help to further expand the Unit for Clinical Ophthalmic Genetics and the Ophthalmic Clinical Trials Unit (OCTU).
  • You function as a bridge between the Center for Medical Genetics and the Department of Ophthalmology of the Ghent University Hospital as well as the Department of Head & Skin of Ghent University
  • You carry part of the responsability of the management and reporting of molecular genetic diagnostic results for patients with inherited eye disease and, as such, you contribute to the fundamental improvement of clinical care and research in ophthalmic genetics
  • You help with care, reporting and research within the framework of the European Reference Network for Rare Eye Diseases (ERN-EYE) of which both ther Department of Ophthalmology & the Center for Medical Genetics of Ghent University Hospital are a member.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a doctoral degree preferably in the medical or biomedical sciences.
  • For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
  • You preferably have already conducted research within the field of medical genetics and/or ophthalmology
  • You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate
  • You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor's, Master's and/or Advanced Master's programmes
  • You are able to show relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peerreviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated
  • You have fluency in Dutch, French and English

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first term of up to three years, you can apply
  • The second appointment does not have to be immediately connected to a first term Your appointment will start on 1 April 2024 at the earliest
