    About Us:

At SuMo Team within Barco, we specialize in video distribution and visualisation within medical operating rooms. Surgeons demand impeccable image quality with minimal latency. To achieve this technically, we have opted for a solution without any form of video compression. However, there are drawbacks associated with this solution. Providing 4k resolution requires two fibers on both the encoder and decoder sides, resulting in high costs for our clients. Hence, we are seeking interns to collaborate with us on research and implementation work to explore single-frame compression codecs for FPGAs.

    Job Description:

Are you a student passionate about advancing medical technology? Join our SuMo Team within Barco as an FPGA Compression Research and Implementation Intern. In this role, you will contribute to groundbreaking research and development efforts aimed at introducing lossless compression within medical operating rooms. You will work alongside experienced professionals, delving into the intricacies of FPGA technology and VHDL programming to explore single-frame compression codecs.

    Responsibilities:

Conduct research on single-frame compression codecs suitable for FPGA implementation.

Collaborate with the team to design and implement compression algorithms tailored for medical video distribution.

Develop and optimize VHDL code for FPGA-based compression solutions.

Test and validate compression algorithms to ensure reliability and performance.

Document research findings, methodologies, and implementation details.

    Requirements:

Proficiency in Xilinx FPGAs and VHDL programming.

Knowledge of video and video compression is a plus.

Enrolled as a student in a relevant field (Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related).

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

    What We Offer:

A unique opportunity to be at the forefront of introducing lossless compression within medical operating rooms.

Guidance and support from a professional team with years of experience in the field.

Access to state-of-the-art facilities in our new building, providing an enriching work environment.

Hands-on experience in cutting-edge technology that can shape the future of medical imaging.
