Intern/Project Assistant in EU Citizen Participation

Missions Publiques is a high-impact social entrepreneur aiming at opening a channel between decision makers and ordinary citizens to promote more inclusive, participatory, and deliberative forms of democracy.
citizen deliberation. In the last 25 years, we have worked with public authorities, European institutions and international organizations, researchers, and NGOs. We are based in Paris, Brussels and Bonn and work at the local, national, European, and global levels.
Last year, Missions Publiques has been heavily involved in the Conference on the Future of Europe.
Working for the Conference Common Secretariat, Missions Publiques has acted as lead coordinator to a multinational team of deliberative experts tasked to design and implement the European Citizens Panels and accompanying the Citizen Ambassadors in the Conference Plenary.
As a direct follow-up to the Conference, one of the initiatives of the European Commission Work Programme includes the organisation of a new generation of citizens' panels, to be part of the Commission's policymaking cycle.
The Job
Your main missions will be to support the team on
the European Citizens Panels for the
European Commission:
with its Danish, Spanish and German partners, Missions Publiques is designing and implementing the New Generation of Citizens Panels, starting with two panels in 2023.
The project assistant will join MP European Panels' core team, participate to the elaboration and coordination of the entire deliberative process, and get to work in close relationship with international partners.
Aside this European project, you will have the opportunity to work on a more local level, especially on cross border dialogues between European countries, which Missions Publiques aims to further develop in the coming months and years, as well as on the upcoming Brussels' Citizens Climate Assembly.
- Participate in the development of the deliberative process
- Support projects' coordination actions by drafting guides, protocols, and project reports for the project partners and the participants
- Support the team through research, documentations on current European policies
- Disseminate and maximise the impact of the project at different levels (European but also local and national)
- Participate and facilitate deliberation meetings and events in direct contact with participants
Your Profile
- You are fluent in English and French. Other languages, especially Dutch and German, are appreciated.
- You can demonstrate solid interpersonal skills, and you are used to work in a team.
- You have a background in political sciences, sociology, public affairs, communication.
- You are interested in participatory and deliberative processes, and/or in the EU (or both)
- Willingness to work for the development of Brussels as capital of the European Union but also as capital of Belgium.
- You have solid organisational skills and are willing to work during a couple of weekends (when the Panels are taking place)
- You have strong writing skills in English and French and are proficient in handling digital tools.
- You are curious, openminded, and proactive.
