Job Purpose


Responsible for leading regulatory compliance for the Group's Belgium operations, as well as supporting the activities of the wider Europe and Group Compliance function activities.

The Compliance Manager will be the lead compliance professional for the Belgium operations department.

Whilst having primary responsibility for the company, the Compliance Manager will work closely with the wider Group and Europe Compliance teams to develop and implement strategic initiatives and ensure compliance with all applicable financial services regulatory requirements.


The Compliance Manager will be expected to combine their understanding of the operational and commercial complexities of the organisation with their expertise on regulatory requirements while assisting the wider team with general Compliance/regulatory experience.

This challenging and rewarding role requires strong technical knowledge and skills and the ability to work independently.


Key Accountabilities / Deliverables

  • Ensure compliance with all Belgium regulatory requirements that fall within the scope of the Compliance function's remit, primarily for the NBB but also including data protection, financial crime etc.
  • Track regulations that affect the firm, ensuring early awareness and producing summary regulatory analysis/ reporting to allow management to understand and address Belgium regulatory developments.
  • Prepare and deliver compliance reports for the company.
  • Support the design and implementation of enhanced systems, processes and controls for demonstrating compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Support management of the Group's policy framework, including communicating any updates required.
  • Support the development and delivery of regulatory training to the Compliance team and business.
  • Work with various stakeholders on the assessment and implementation of regulatory requirements.

Person Specification

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including previous evidence of preparing presentations and reports, appropriate and relative to the recipient audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnering relationships with a wider range of stakeholders and to challenge, negotiate with, influence, and persuade stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work with a degree of independence and autonomy, as well as part of a team.
  • Analytical, with good attention to detail and the ability to produce high quality advice.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks.
  • Ability to appreciate the importance of, track, and meet deadlines, and manage stakeholders' expectations.

Generalist compliance experience:


  • Daytoday provision of regulatory compliance assistance, advice, training, and awareness.
  • Coordinate and formulate responses to internal and external regulatory enquiries and information requests.
  • Produce relevant management information for senior stakeholders in the business.
  • Identify opportunities to make enhance processes and the operations of the Compliance function.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Group Compliance, Risk Management, Internal Audit, Claims, Legal and other relevant key stakeholders.

Technical Knowledge and Understanding

  • Experience working in Financial Services, preferably insurance within Belgium.
  • Strong knowledge of Financial Crime and Data Protection regulation would be desirable.
  • Ease with grasping new, complex, and technical standards/regulations.
  • A strong knowledge of Belgium insurance regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to communicate (written and oral) fluently in Dutch or Flemish, and English.
  • Holder of a Belgium Compliance Qualification where credentials are recognised by the FSMA and NBB.
