About the team


Laborelec's Non-Metallic Materials Team is specialized in solving non-metallic related issues encountered by nuclear, thermal and renewable power plants, and in development of non-metallic expertise for new energy solutions.

Our primary task is to boost power plant reliability by analyzing and preventing damage, determining the life span of critical components and analyzing failure cases in the field.

This work is complemented with long-term research and innovation projects for evolving (renewable) energy businesses and technologies.


What you'll be doing

Your responsibilities as (Junior) non-metallic Expert

  • You will work on solving tangible problems and carry out longerterm projects, offering the opportunity to build up practical experience in the field and to enhance technical knowledge in one or more areas;
  • You will essentially work for nuclear, thermal and renewable power plants;
  • You will work on nonmetallic materials such as polymers, elastomers, composites, coatings, electrical insulating materials ;
  • You focus on failure and root cause analyses, and you will make recommendations to the customers in order to increase process quality, plant reliability and lifetime;
  • As the single point of contact for the customer, you will be in charge of defining the scope of a field intervention, coordinating the required lab analysis, interpreting results, and producing a report including recommendations for presentation to the customer;
  • You will grow in your field of expertise and beyond by continuous onthejob learning and by training opportunities;
  • You will collaborate across Laborelec's various departments and areas of expertise, and will be in direct contact with our various customers, both nationally and internationally;
  • Alongside with your work for clients of the energy market, you will also contribute to collaborative research projects with external partners such as research institutes, universities and key ENGIE partners;
  • Depending on your preferences and your particular talents, you could progress to a top expert role, a multidisciplinary or project management oriented role, or an operational role with technical management aspects, within Laborelec or the wider ENGIE group.

If you identify with any of the following, we encourage you to apply
Do you?

  • Have a master or PhD degree in chemistry or materials science;
  • Have specialised in polymers and/or nonmetallic materials.
  • Have a degree or experience in coatings or electrical insulating materials is an advantage;
  • Have knowledge of analytic techniques (FTIR, SEM-EDX, DSC, TGA, ), degradation mechanisms and mechanical property testing is a strong plus;
  • Demonstrate passionate about technology;
  • Have strong analytical skills, you are realistic and have a pragmatic approach;
  • Are at ease interacting with personnel in the field;
  • Share your knowledge, and look for solutions with colleagues;
  • Agree to travel to carry out work onsite, including in nuclear installations, with international trips one of about a week;
  • Demonstrate customer focus, creativity and the ability to solve complex problems by proposing innovative solutions with high added value.;
  • Have high ethical standards and an inherent safetyconscious attitude;
  • Master Dutch, French and English, or could become fluent quickly;
  • Hold a driving license;
  • Nuclear clearance is an advantage.
