Your responsibilities:


  • You provide data science project leadership for activities involving a global team of highly performing data scientists located across all R&D sites, fostering inclusive and agile ways of working in line with the vision of "One global R&D".
  • You scope is data science projects based on strong understanding of business needs. You formulate and communicate project goals, technical plan with incremental implementation strategy, delivery milestones, and clear impact statement based on desired business outcomes.
  • You launch Data Science projects in support of technical development of vaccines and medicines, in strong partnership with business partners across TRD and MDS. You are the bridge between pipeline project leaders, functional experts and data scientists to identify collaboration opportunities, to clarify business requirements and project vision, and to ensure focus on value generation.
  • You oversee data science projects, facilitate agile ways of working, and foster the use of project and portfolio management tools to efficiently coordinate and prioritize activities, whilst ensuring visibility and capturing value brought by the teams.
  • You support data science delivery teams and ensure high quality of delivered solution, e.g. through technical guidance, code reviews, handson development.
  • You support the implementation of GSK's digital strategy and innovation framework with strong focus on the concrete needs of CMC across vaccines and pharma, e.g. in terms of data capture, omics, machine learning, etc.
  • You build network and work across boundaries with various dataanalytics / datascience initiatives across GSK globally (e.g. Preclinical, Pharma R&D, Tech,...).
  • You work closely with the Scientific Director (Data Science), CADS LT, and Industry 4.0 to build a fluid DD&A organization and actively avoid silos e.g. by facilitating knowledge sharing, allowing people to transition easily between teams in direct response to business needs, and providing support and guidance on project leadership, agile implementation, and stakeholder management.
  • You represent the organization on key conferences and advocacy groups to influence the external and regulatory environment.

Basic Qualifications:


  • We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:_
  • PhD in Data science, machine learning, advanced modelling, chemometrics, bioinformatics, computational biology or equivalent through work experience.
  • 5+ years (PhD preferred), with relevant experience in omics, chemometrics, deep learning, or related fields.
  • Fluent English required, second language desirable (e.g. French, Italian).
  • Proven ability and experience of leading crossfunctional project teams and managing projects in a multicultural setting, focused on delivering business value within strict timelines. Experience in virtual teams preferred.
  • Strong customer orientation, fostering an open, trusted work relationship.
  • Strong networking and influencing skills with proven ability to coordinate and manage complex stakeholder groups.
  • Strong communications skills ability to convey complex scientific messages across multidisciplinary functions.
  • Familiarity with software development principles (code versioning, testing, etc.).
  • Demonstrated successful collaborations with experimental scientists.
