The United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC), as part of the Department of Global Communication (DGC) in the Campaigns and Country Operations Division (CCOD), invites you to be part of an internship program during 2023.


The internship position is in the UN Regional Information Centre for Western Europe in Brussels, with the Desk for Italy, the Holy See, San Marino and Malta.

The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Italian Desk and reports to him.

UNRIC/Italy provides communication services to a wide array of actors in the national civil society and is the main source of information about the United Nations system in the country.

The Desk is also mandated to promote greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries.


The internship is for an initial period of four months with an opportunity for extension as a maximum 6 months depending on the needs of the Department and availability of the intern.

The internship is UNPAID and full time.

Interns work five days a week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Department or office.


Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Desk Officer, the daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Assist in the daily monitoring and analysis of Italian media for submission of inputs to HQ's Headlines and Media reviews;
Assist in drafting, editing, translating media advisories, press releases, backgrounders and other information material for dissemination into Italian and posting;
Assist the Italy Desk in various tasks such as, maintaining content on websites, official social media accounts and other official digital communication outlets and monitoring their usage through analytics and other statistical tools;
Assist with updating the Desk's thematic mailing lists of recipients in the national civil society;
Under the supervision of the PIO, manage contacts with Italy-based volunteer translators within the framework of the distance internship program for linguistic mediators;
Assist in creating and editing infographics or social videos for posting on official digital communication outlets;
Liaising with Italy-based ASVIS on Sustainable Development Goals-related issues;
Assist in the designing of visual materials to be use in social media, reports and other requested by UNIC and/or RC office to raise awareness of the UN work at global and local level;
Assist in preparing online campaign materials to increase the awareness or educational materials on the UN work in Italy, globally or other campaigns;
Help adapt global visual campaign to the country level and messages;
Update the UNRIC/Italy web site and social media accounts to include drafting and editing content;

Assist in the production, editing and subtitling of video/film projects, radio program or website projects; produce scripts, quote cards, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
or

b.

Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
