Director Hardware Platform Development

The hardware platform (HWP) group within Advanced Innovation develops next-generation hardware platforms for hearing implantable solutions.

The hardware platforms consist of custom ASICs, electrical and connectivity components architected for efficient re-use that meet the needs of multiple products and product family.

The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for a full time, Director Hardware Platform Development based in our Mechelen, Belgium office.

In this role, the successful Director Hardware Platform Development will be managing, building, and improving the ASIC, Electrical, Connectivity and Platform project management competency (Manager of people managers), in a "One Cochlear" spirit.


Responsibilities include:

  • Partner effectively with other departments at Sydney, Mechelen and Gothenburg to ensure hardware technology platform requirements and interdependencies are understood and accounted for.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the HWP to settle on a highlevel platform architecture to meet the needs of multiple products and product families.

Essential

Technical competencies

  • University degree in electronics engineering and relevant industrial experience in project management of ASIC, Electronic or hardware platform projects
  • Experience with managing a team of about 3040 people and external suppliers.
  • Experience with controlled development processes
  • Strong capability to lead by influence throughout the R&D organization and other multifunctional departments and manage communication with senior management/sponsors.
  • Broad view on HW technology platform, electronic, ASIC, Wireless, Embedded SW and System Engineering technologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (Dutch & English)
  • Ability to set direction and define strategy for the hardware platform team.
  • Strong in crossfunctional thinking and problem solving.
  • Proven experience in project and people management

Ideal

  • Experience with supplier & subcontractor contacts
