WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

_EU Institutions:
Back-end Developer_

We're seeking a Back-end Developer with expertise in Java / JEE and interconnected enterprise-level systems to join our client's team at European Institutions.

Unit SANTE.R.4 'Information Systems' is in charge of developing, maintaining and operating the DG's information systems at the three geographical sites in Brussels, Luxembourg and Grange.

The unit works directly with the policy units on digital solutions to implement SANTE's policies and manages the local IT infrastructure and support.

The mission of DG SANTE is to:

improve and protect human health, and support the modernisation of Europe's health systems;

- ensure that all food, feed and medicinal products marketed in the EU are safe and that EU standards are promoted globally;
- protect animal health and welfare and plant health;
- contribute to a well-functioning and fair internal market in food.

Health and Food Safety IT projects and operations:

YOUR TASKS

Implement core business logic.
Understanding and implementation of security and data protection.
Design and develop APIs.
Participating in the design and creation of scalable software.
Maintenance of code integrity and organisation.
Writing clean, functional code on the backend.
Compile and analyse data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement.
Testing and fixing bugs or other coding issues
Write technical documentation

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Mandatory:

At least 7 years of specific expertise in backend languages and frameworks, in particular Java (JDK8 or later)
At least 7 years of specific expertise in web development cycle and programming techniques and tools; in particular JEE (version 7 or later), XML and SOAPbased web services (e.g. JAX-WS)
At least 7 years of specific expertise in Database technology, specifically Oracle RDBM
At least 5 years of specific expertise in code versioning tools such as Git or SVN
At least 5 years of specific expertise in using issuetracking, continuous integration and collaboration tools such as the Atlassian tool suite, in particular Jira, Confluence and Bamboo (or equivalent)

Required skills:

Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment.
Excellent verbal communication.

Good problemsolving skills
Ability to participate in multilingual meetings

EXTRA INFORMATION

Work is in remote mode (work from home) but from a location allowing to reach the Commission premises in Brussels within 2 hours drive/train.
Both Freelance and Permanent competitive contracts
Laptop provided
