Airtec, Where the magic happens

As a mathematical modelling expert and data specialist within the Engineering Quality team (FTK) you will be part of the engineering department of the Airtec division.

Airtec is a division within Atlas Copco's Compressor Technique business area. The headquarter is located in Antwerp (Belgium) and has production units in Antwerp and China.
Worldwide, 1000 employees contribute to the success of this division.

Airtec division is responsible for the design, development, engineering, manufacturing and assembly of all Atlas Copco compressor elements worldwide.

These elements make up the core of the compressor units which are developed, produced and marketed in other divisions of the Compressor Technique business area.

Airtec engineering consists of different teams all with their specific range, technology and responsibilities such as oil injected compressors, oil free compressors, blowers, vacuum pumps, turbo's, motors, coolers, scroll elements, etc.

FTK's mission is to continuously monitor, maintain and improve all Airtec products via a pro-active and re-active approach, such as:

Design review: Reviewing new product design, proposing and implementing modifications
Application Approval: Validating correct use of products in customer units
Complaint handling: Investigating element failures
Giving support to the organization in terms of training, continuous improvement, problem solving, field testing, process improvements,

Both Airtec and the other divisions responsible for producing and servicing the compressor units collect a lot of data.

The nature of this data is extremely diverse ranging from part measurement reports, clearances measured during element assembly, production end test data as well as live unit running data (such as temperatures and pressures), service and end-of-life data.

Mathematical models can help us to dig up relevant correlations with the aim of improving the quality of our elements.

In a nutshell:
As a modelling expert and data specialist

You will lead the development of data driven models to enhance comparisons and predictions in terms of performance and lifetime expectancy.

Together with the engineering team you will:
- map the available data sources,
- assess the quality of the data at hand (by developing metrics), and formulate suggestions on how to improve it further,
- perform data engineering, data processing and modeling techniques using ML platform of Databricks
- clean and manipulate the data, ensuring its integrity along the way,
- develop, qualify and document new survival analysis mathematical models,
- document your insights and share them in the organization, with the goal to improve our element quality.

Educational requirements/Qualification profile

You have a master's degree or PhD in applied mathematics (in engineering) or science (physics, maths,), or equal by experience.

You can read, understand, create and communicate data as information.

You have experience with scientific programming (R, Python,), machine learning/artificial intelligence/
