PURPOSE OF THE JOB

In this role the Project Planning Manager will coordinate the ERTMS onboard project core team ensuring that the project delivers on time with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on schedule adherence.

The Project Planning Manager will be part of the project core team located in Oslo (Norway) and will interact with the off-shore planning manager, project team, suppliers and the various customers (Bane NOR and the vehicle owners).

This project delivers to 15 different customers as there are several train owners. Suppliers are both local and foreign.

NETWORK & LINKS

  • Internal: Project team, participating Alstom Product Lines in the Project, contract manager.
  • Work in Project Core team
  • External: Client on Schedule Management aspects, partners, subcontractors and suppliers on Schedule Management aspects.

MISSION

In the scope of the project, the Project Planning Manager will be part of the ERTMS onboard project core team and in charge of reporting both to Alstom and to various customers.

In order to measure the performance, the Project Planning Manager will set up KPIs on schedule adherence, and track variation from a baseline on deliverables both from Alstom as well as input from the customers, suppliers or third parties.

The Project Planning Manager will integrate engineering, procurement, production, installation and commissioning schedules into the ERTMS onboard project schedule and manage the schedule interface with internal partners, supporting the Customer and Subcontractors.

Further to the design phase of the project where the solution is defined and tested on some test trains, the Project Planning Manager will develop and follow-up the detailed roll-out schedule (based on contractual targets).

The roll-out is the phase where the solution is deployed on 467 trains of 55 different types belonging to 14 different owners.

Managing the schedule is more than collecting input from various stakeholders, it involves also a critical review of the input and requires challenging the contributors to serve the goal of the project.

The Project Planning Manager will analyze schedule performance compared to the contract plan using critical path analysis method (CPM) and float management, with a focus on early identification of risks and opportunities to facilitate proactive actions that will optimize on-time performance of internal and subcontracted deliverables.

Should the project planning slip and no longer meet the contractual targets, the Project Planning Manager will propose mitigation measures or alternatives, in collaboration with the team, in order to get the schedule back aligned with contractual targets.

The Project Planning Manager will be also in charge of the reporting of the project schedule, to the Project Manager and to the customers.
