We are looking for a Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MSAT) Lab Upstream Senior Scientist who is dynamic, experienced, and collaborative to join our Global Biologics MSAT team, based at our UCB campus in Braine-l'Alleud, Belgium.


Who You Will Work With


In this global role, you'll work closely with development and commercial manufacturing groups worldwide, ensuring a seamless transition and scalability of processes from development to commercial scale.


You'll be a key member of virtual and matrix project teams, spanning geographies and time zones, often serving as the MSAT department's representative in cross-functional project teams.


About the Role
The MSAT Lab Upstream Senior Scientist will be instrumental in:

  • Acquiring and maintaining upstream process expertise for late-stage and commercial products.
  • Providing upstream process expertise.
  • Leading Technology Transfers and Process Validations with labscale activities.
- boosting Manufacturing campaigns with satellite runs.

  • Improving the comprehension, robustness, and economics of commercial manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluating new technologies.
  • Establish close partnership with development and commercial manufacturing groups worldwide, serving as a representative of the department in crossfunctional project teams.
  • Provide technical mentorship within MSAT and manage various cell culture experiments to investigate culture conditions, product quality, and upstream process scalability.

Major Accountabilities

  • Adhere to UCB's Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of experimental protocols, data, and reports.
  • Support the development and update of MSAT lab policies and procedures.
  • Provide cell culture and analytics lab support for technology transfers, process validations, and manufacturing operations.

Education & Qualification

  • An M.Sc. degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A track record in cell culture and diagnostic activities.
  • 710 years of experience in upstream bioprocessing.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent problemsolving and communication skills.
  • Experience in technology transfer and process scaleup/scaledown is a plus.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory, with knowledge of French being advantageous.
