    Job Description

The Operational Excellence Project Manager supportsthedevelopment and implementation of Operational Excellence capabilities by driving multi-site projects, coaching local and international cross-functional teams, and further developing the "Eurofins Lean Academy" and the "Eurofins Lean Network".
A key task within this role is the development of standardised tools that can be used by all Lean and Operational Excellence practitioners across all Eurofins National Business Lines (global scope).

The focus of the Eurofins Permanent Improvement Programmes is driving sustainable cultural change and implementing standard methods. Operational Excellence Project Managers use a defined Operational Excellence methodology adapted to the service industry.

Strong project and change management skills are required for successful transformation and for building (Lean) capabilities in a decentralised organization such as Eurofins.

Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the further development of the "Eurofins Lean Academy". The Academy develops the training programme, as a collection of methods, tools and best practices specifically adapted to the testing laboratory world, with the aim of increasing quality and reducing turn-around-time (Lead Time) and costs. As Operational Excellence Project Manager, you will own, develop and refine parts of the Lean toolkit as a recognised thought leader within the Lean network. This includes creating new training modules and delivering formal training sessions and project reviews for both colleagues and Lean candidates.
Developing standardised operations models is an important part of the academy, therefore the ability to handle datasets is a must.
  • Launching and running/coaching Lean and other operational excellence projects. Based on the Eurofins Lean methodology, you will structure, launch and (for more complex projects) co-run the operational improvement projects jointly with the Business Lines' Lean Project Managers and/or technical experts. To ensure impact, you will always participate in the structuring phase, diagnostic phase, generation of the project plan, and in most cases, the implementation of the pilot phase. Your main goal is to grow local Lean resources, so that ultimately, daily improvement projects can be run autonomously by local employees.
  • Participating in the selection of local Lean Project Managers and Technical Leads. In line with the objective of building Lean capabilities across the network, you might be asked to support local HR departments in assessing the Lean knowledge and experience or process expertise (as required) of candidates and participating in the recruitment decision process.
  • Defining and developing laboratory layouts and standard processes (blueprints). Given its portfolio of capabilities and strong international presence, Eurofins is permanently driving towards identifying and implementing Operational Best Practices. One strong lever is the planning of Lab Layouts and lab processes prior to the building / renovation of a new site. You will support the definitions of the optimal laboratory layout and the optimal work cells right from the beginning of the project. This involves both basic tools, such as sample flow definition and VSM, as well as more advanced tools, such as discrete time simulation.
  • Programme Management. You will oversee a portfolio of projects executed within the Lean network, and will directly manage a portfolio of strategic projects at regional and international level. This means that you must be comfortable with delivering and overseeing several workstreams in parallel, and that you will be responsible for ensuring that the impact is captured in a standardised way between regions. The skill of collecting heterogeneous information to create progress reports is therefore important.
  • Qualifications

  • Personal Skills:
  • Strong change management skills required. Good interpersonal skills (team management, written and oral communication, presentation skills) are as important as the functional skills, if not more, since the operational excellence programme is all about changing the way people work. In the Eurofins culture of decentralised decision-making, change management skills are imperative.

  • Initial Education Background:
  • Engineering, science or economics degree.

  • Additional Education Background:
  • We are looking for a candidate with experience in Operations Management, covering three important aspects: 1) extensively and comfortably using data to quickly diagnose the situation and prioritise the most impactful course of action; 2) being able to get the change done, especially when the operational activities are executed by others; and 3) being able to build analytical tools to either analyse high-volume operational data, or track the progress of implementation and impact of dispersed Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives,
Extensive formal and on-the-job training of Lean / operational excellence concepts is a strong plus.

Formal certification (university courses in Lean / Operations Management, Black Belt, etc.) is not mandatory but appreciated.

  • Language skills and level expected:
  • English is required.

Any other language of a country where Eurofins has operating companies is a plus.

  • Type and duration of previous experience:
  • The role exists at different levels of seniority (and therefore expectations differ).

  • Technical knowledge (e.g. IT, etc.):
  • Good knowledge of standard office applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel. VBA programming is an advantage. Some data manipulation experience (e.g. SQL, Power BI, etc.) is required.
General knowledge of data systems, IT architecture and production control is helpful.

The position calls for someone that is excited to travel in Europe (weekday travel) according to open projects. The role may also include trips outside of your normal region.

The Permanent Improvement Programmes are led by a diverse and international team working closely with upper management. This is a great position to get your foot in the door of a dynamic company where entrepreneurship is valued and internal mobility is possible around the world.
