Push boundaries as proton therapy centre coordinator:

Proton therapy centre PARTICLE is an interuniversity project of UZ Leuven, KU Leuven, Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc and UC Louvain, co-supported by UZ Gent, UZ Brussel, CHU UCL Namur and UZA.

The centre is located at the Gasthuisberg Health Sciences Campus and architecturally and organisationally forms an integral part of UZ Leuven's accredited radiotherapy-oncology department.

The centre has two bunkers with their own particle accelerator for both clinical and preclinical research.

To strengthen our team we're looking for a proton therapy centre coordinator who will be responsible for the general coordination of the clinical, experimental and training aspect of PARTICLE in cooperation with the radiotherapy-oncology unit head and the PARTICLE chief medical officer.

This position involves a 50% appointment that may be combined, if necessary, with a 50% appointment to coordinate and follow up the proton therapy research programme.

How will you push boundaries?:

  • You take care of the daytoday management of the centre and continuously try to optimise the operations of the centre.

To this end, you work closely with the various disciplines of the radiation oncology unit and you're the contact for all relevant medical and support services within UZ Leuven.

  • You manage the centre's resources and keep an overview of the budgets and financial flows within the centre.
  • You represent UZ Leuven and PARTICLE at different public bodies and ensure an efficient collaboration and understanding in the context of accreditations.
  • You build an (inter)national network and maintain relationships with relevant partners and agencies for referrals and collaboration in a clinical field and in research.
  • The proton therapy centre acts as (inter)national training and referral centre for proton therapy. In this context you coordinate and keep training programmes up to date in collaboration with IBA and the Chief Medical Officer.

What do you need?:

  • You have a university degree, preferably in (bio)medical sciences or health sciences or you have a master's in engineering or applied sciences with relevant experience in a medical context. A PhD is an added value.
  • You have several years of relevant experience, whether in a management position or not.
  • You have experience coordinating (mediumsized to) large projects.
  • You're flexible and are able to work well in a multidisciplinary team.
  • You have strong communicative and interpersonal skills.
  • You're sufficiently assertive and pay attention to diplomacy and integrity.
  • You're analytical and conceptually strong.
  • You can work autonomously, have a sense of initiative and are solution
- and result-oriented.

  • You're stress resistant and know how to prioritise, plan and organise your work well.

What do you get in return?:

UZ Leuven offers a professional, multidisciplinary work environment which closely follows evolutions and where there is space for training, coaching and personal growth.
