THESIS DESCRIPTION**The goal of this thesis is to develop a prototype of a BLDC (Brushless DC motor) speed controller that complaints to electrical military environment.
-
i. Define the needs**The student will do some research on existing open source solutions to define the work path. The design will probably be based on an open-source BLDC speed controller (Figure 1) to makes things easier and to allow the product to have a lot of features in a short period of time.
-
ii. Conceptual design**The electrical constrains on the device should be studied to be able to successfully pass military standard (EMC). A safety mechanism should be implemented in case of defect.
-
iii. Create the prototype and test it**The student will design a board to control a BLDC motor. Tests will be carried out on the PCB to verify that the design works well and the military standard are successfully passed.
-
SUBJECT DISCUSSED DURING THESIS*
  • BLDC motors
  • Speed controller
  • EMC
  • Filtering
  • Analog sensor
  • PCB design
  • Altium Designer
The student should be interested in EMC and in PCB design.

3. STUDENT INTERNAL SUPPORT**During this thesis, the student will be supported by the electronic R&D department and the electronic industrialization and prototyping department of John Cockerill Defense.

4. PREFERED SCHOOL/UNIVERSITY SUPPORT**Second year of master's degree. The EMC standard are difficult to successfully pass. A support in EMC is a plus

5. REQUIRED LANGUAGE**Both English or French
