WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER:


  • Southeast Europe is one of our priority conservation geographies in Europe. The Southeast Europe Renewable Energy Siting Specialist provides technical and scientific support to the Southeast Europe (SEE) team. This position will focus on increasing our capacity to map out the areas that can be prioritized for renewable energy development, as well as to support and train our technical partners across the region.
  • Southeast Europe Renewable Energy Siting Specialist will be the technical lead for a set of multistakeholder projects aimed at advancing TNC's renewable energy siting strategy across the countries of Southeast Europe. They will collect, process and manage data needed for the development of renewable energy siting assessments, and model optimal locations for renewable energy deployment in the region. Southeast Europe Renewable Energy Siting Specialist will conduct scientific surveys, data analysis, provide models and maps, writes reports and develops proposals. They will act as the key focal point between our global scientific expertise and local partners and engage them creatively to resolve data availability and other technical assignments while developing local, national or regional renewable energy siting assessments.
  • Main responsibilities:
  • Coordinate technical and scientific aspects of the renewable energy siting strategy in Southeast Europe.
  • Collects and manages data for renewable energy siting in Southeast Europe.
  • Deliver tools and analysis (data, models, maps) that identify areas where renewable energy and transmission systems present the fewest conflicts with wildlife, natural habitats and local communities.
  • Conduct training for staff and partners.
  • Writes reports and develops models and maps (renewable energy siting, species sensitivity mapping).
  • Supports project development and monitoring, may develop and manage grants, contracts or requests for proposal.
  • Travels occasionally across Southeast Europe and internationally

WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU:


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:


  • Master's Degree in energy, environment or similar sciencerelated field and 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems software and Remote Sensing (ENVI, ERDAS, ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Experience preparing reports of findings.
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing and interpreting statistical, energy and environmental data.
  • Experience synthesizing and communicating scientific information.
  • Experience fundraising and/or writing grants and research proposals.
  • Experience managing complex projects and coordinating the work of peers and partners.
  • Experience in engagement with stakeholders / governmental and nongovernmental institutions, experts and academia.
  • Experience in intersectoral dialogues, and working with interdisciplinary, crossfunctional teams.
  • Experience with communication via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and at least one language spoken in Southeast Europe


  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A PhD in technical or natural sciences.
  • Record of peerreviewed publications in scientific journals.
  • Experience in environmental and/or social impacts of wind and solar technologies and their respective mitigation measures.
  • Strong background in statistical analysis software (R, Matlab, SAS). A programming background is an asset (Python, IDL, EML).
  • Handson experience with land use (land cover modelling and future projections) and nature protection policy and legislative framework (EU/specific country).
