We are looking for a Project Manager to lead a high-profile development of an operational data processing, storage and dissemination system for scientific data obtained from satellites.


In this role you will work on assigned development projects in the space domain based on ours or client specific goals and needs.

You will use a combination of management skills and specific financial and administrative knowledge to coordinate the assigned project teams with the goal of project completion within specified time and budget constraints.

On an as-needed basis, the Project Manager will be required to support development of other space business and service lines through contribution of expertise, knowledge and experience in the development of proposals and at client meetings.

This role will be based at our Diegem office near Brussels, Belgium.

You will have the opportunity to work in a challenging environment with state-of-the-art technologies within the areas of space, ground segment, model-based engineering and security domains.


Tasks and Activities:


The scope of work will include:

  • Taking full responsibility for the definition, documentation and completion of the project.
  • Maintaining communication with the customer and its technical representatives ensuring that reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure and customer expectations.
  • Collaborating with Technical Leads assigned to the projects.
  • Overseeing and supporting data system design activities.
  • Identifying, assessing and managing risks to aid the success of the project.
  • Ensuring that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and providing regular and accurate reports to stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Communicating and coordinating project activities with the project team (our staff, partners, subcontractors) and ensuring that priorities are developed and known.
  • Facilitating efficient communication across all levels of the project (our staff, partners, subcontractors, and clients) to ensure consistency in reaching the project's goal and to help in the recognition of any potential opportunities, risks or complications.
  • Managing the project resources and costs.
  • Contributing background skills, knowledge and experience towards the project completion.
  • Supporting the preparation of project proposals.

Skills and Experience:


The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • Proven successful project management experience (5 years as minimum) for large data systems.
  • Understanding of current stateoftheart of Information Technology, including public and private cloud deployments.
  • Understanding of data processing systems and related architectures.
  • Experience participating in technical discussions with a project team and enabling a solution driven process.
  • Experience in working with government agencies, industrial, academic and nonprofit organisations.
  • Rapid selfstarting capabilities and experience in team working.
  • Excellent communication skills, presentation preparation skills and the ability to present in front of an audience.
  • Customer and result oriented.
  • Proven proficiency in English (spoken and written).
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of data processing systems projects, preferably in any of the following areas:
  • Scientific or satellite payload data storage processing and dissemination systems.
  • Cloud Architectures and deployments.
  • Cybersecurity concepts.
  • Application of ECSS or similar project management and software engineering standards.
  • Experience with Agile (or similar) development processes.
  • Knowledge of systems operations and maintenance according to SLA and KPI.
