Your tasks:

Ghent University has a strong reputation worldwide for its research and innovation activities in the field of animal health. Its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was number one in the world (global Shanghai Ranking) between 2017 and 2022. This is the result of a strong and multidisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.

Since 2022, a Ghent University team composed of a business developer, administrative, financial and EU account managers, an innovation manager healthcare and two post-docs in animal health worked together on assembling and submitting a successful proposal for a 'European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare' (EUP AH&W, link) in the Horizon Europe (HE) Framework Programme.

For the first time, Ghent University is coordinating a European Partnership. The Grant Agreement was signed very recently, end of February 2024. The EUP AH&W already started its activities on January 1st, 2024 and will extend its activities up to 2030. The partnership counts 90 enthusiastic partners across 24 EU and non-EU countries. Its successful Kick-off meeting was organised in Brussels on 26-27 February (link). Its launch was celebrated by the European Commission on the 28 of February in Brussels (link).

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated colleague who will support the financial aspects of the partnership.

The EUP AH&W Financial Manager will report to the EUP AH&W coordinator and deputy coordinator and will be part of the Coordination Support Office.

Your main task will be to financially manage the EUP AH&W, collect data from partners and deliver ad hoc financial reports for the internal financial management and the HE periodic reports.

In this function, you will in particular:

Be responsible for the daily management of the UGent budget of the EUP AH&W within the internal financial system (SAP) at UGent
Prepare and follow up the overall annual budget of the partnership
Prepare the HE periodic financial reports and ensure compliance with reporting requirements set by the European Research Executive Agency
Be in contact with the financial department of the project partners to collect and check their cost reporting every 6 months and provide some general guidance on the HE financial regulations, if necessary. You will be assisted in this task by the central administration of UGent and its EU Team
Present annually the budget at the General Assembly and Governing Board
Provide strategic financial guidance to support the management of the Partnership, identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them
Implement effective internal controls to safeguard project resources
Participate in audits related to the European project, with the support of the EU Team at UGent

Your profile:

Knowledge and experience:

You have a degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
You have a proven experience as a Financial Manager, experience in projects involving large and international consortia is a plus
You are familiar with European funding programmes and financial reporting
You have an excellent understanding of financial planning, analysis, and reporting
You have strong proficiency in relevant financial management software (Excel, SAP is a plus)
You are fluent in Dutch and English (spoken and written). Knowledge of French is an asset

We offer a contract of indefinite duration in function class A with a salary in accordance with the UGent salary scales 7.1 to 9.2, determined by your relevant experience at the level of the position.

Admission requirements:

You hold a Master's degree or equivalent degree and you submit a transcript of your degree. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
