ICI Global carries out the international work of the Investment Company Institute, the leading association representing regulated investment funds.

Under the direction of the Managing Director of ICI Global's office in Brussels, the
Assistant Director will be responsible for formulating policy positions and analysis in collaboration with colleagues and member firms on identified European and cross-border regulatory and capital market issues impacting the regulated funds industry.

The
Assistant Director** will have a portfolio of regulatory and policy topics and will be expected to provide thoughtful analysis of how these issues impact the industry both within the relevant jurisdiction, and more broadly, outside the region.

The
Assistant Director **will support the Managing Director and collaborate closely with the Director, Government Relations with ICI Global's engagement with the European Commission, Council and Parliamentary officials as well as national regulators and other stakeholders to gather intelligence and to advocate in ICI Global priorities.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify regulatory initiatives affecting regulated funds and capital markets as well as prepare analysis and recommendations in respect of such developments. This may cover a wide range of issues covering investment funds legislation (UCITS/AIFMD/ELTIF), retail investment frameworks (MIFID), sustainable finance legislation (SFDR/Benchmarks) and financial stability.
  • Analyze regulatory publications, proposals and consultations and prepare together with colleagues and member firms position papers/materials/data points/communication materials on these issues.
  • Actively participate in the elaboration and design of engagement/advocacy campaigns and where appropriate, contribute to the engagement with European and international policymakers by becoming expert on several of the issues identified above.
  • Participate in meetings with member firms and prospective member firms and brief them about the regional regulatory policies. Specifically, participate in and assist the Managing Director in running the European Regulatory and Policy Committee, making recommendations on agenda items for the Committee and ensuring the circulation of materials to members.
  • Participate in regulatory, policy and industry fora, including conferences, seminars, roundtables and other events.
  • In coordination with the Managing Director of the Brussels office, work closely with the Washingtonbased leadership of ICI Global, including the Chief of ICI Global and collaborate with other ICI staff on issues and developments, including engagement strategies on key issues.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in analyzing and addressing policy and regulatory issues that impact the financial sector and capital markets, preferably in a public sector or government entity, financial firm, regulator or standard setter, law firm, accounting firm or academic institution. Specific experience in addressing issues of relevance to investment funds and asset managers is an asset.
  • Excellent writing skills in English with demonstrated ability to write clearly for both lay and technical audiences. Ability to operate in other languages an asset.
  • Ability to speak and present fluently, convincingly, and credibly to a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of EU governance and the policymaking process, both in Brussels as well as with the Level 2 process.
  • Knowledge of financial institutions and financial markets. Specific knowledge of investment management an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze policy issues and the political context and translate this into an actionable engagement strategy and then execute the strategy. Ability to connect policy issues with relevant economic and business data and trends an asset.
  • History of good judgement regarding information, which may be confidential or material, nonpublic.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including managing multiple workflows against tight deadlines and the ability to operate with a significant degree of responsibility and autonomy.
