This full-time role, based in Brussels, will allow you to work with our different teams: Policy, Research, Communications, Operations to our dedicated community of Member Societies, Patient Advisory Committee and Focused Topic Networks; All contributing to beating cancer and improving care.


The role provides an opportunity to be at the heart of the implementation of Europe's Beating Cancer Plan and to deliver, through policy implementation, tangible improvement for cancer patient care in all countries.


About the Organisation European Cancer Organisation (ECO)**The European Cancer Organisation is a not-for-profit federation of 42 Member Societies working in fighting cancer across the continent, together with 21 European Patient Advisory Committee members through 10 Focused Topic Networks.


We bring together patients, oncology professionals and public health experts to propose new policies, advocate change and be the united voice of the European cancer community.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide content and support towards the 'smartCARE' project's mission of capturing and presenting a full and accurate understanding of the range of survivor, caregiver and healthcare professional needs associated to the creation of an EU Cancer Survivor Smartcard ('smartCARE').
  • Support the achievement of ECO's responsibilities towards the 4D Picture, EU NAVIGATE, STRONG-AYA and EUonQOL projects
  • In support of the above, oversee, manage and ensure the timely and effective delivery of reports, largescale user needs surveys, and desktop research activity. This will include leading meetings, ensuring work is conducted to a high level and that deadlines are respected.
  • Support the policy activities of the European Cancer Organisation in areas such as Survivorship and Quality of Life and other areas of policy activity that may be assigned;
  • Monitoring policy developments and communicating these effectively
  • Conducting deskbased research and providing briefing material on key topics to organisational leadership
  • Drafting of advocacy communication collateral e.g. reports, position papers, fact sheets, consultation responses
  • Providing logístical support for policy related events as assigned
  • Organising contact programmes with EU decisionmakers
  • Preparing of consultation responses
  • Supporting the monitoring and response to relevant EU funding calls e.g. Horizon Europe, EU4Health, Digital Europe
  • Attending and reporting from policy events, including for alliances and coalitions in which the organisation is involved
  • Reviewing papers that the organisation is invited to contribute to
  • Providing proactive support to the productive operation of Networks of the European Cancer Organisation, including provision of timely informational updates on policy developments relevant to the Network in question.
  • Leading the development of internal procedures and structures to efficiently address policy work, including the growth of political relationships
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Chief Executive and/or Head of Policy
General Skill Specifications

  • A high degree of proficiency in writing in English, especially for formal audiences (e.g. meeting reports, minutes, briefings, consultation responses, position papers)
  • A background and understanding of the European Union political landscape
  • A background and understanding of health and cancer policy
  • Must be able to work independently, think critically and have excellent organisational skills, paying attention to detail
  • Be a team player able to follow internal and external workflows with precise deadlines
  • Proactively followup on pending tasks
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise several items that all require varying degrees of urgency
  • Aptitude to maintain calm when confronted with unforeseen circumstances
  • Being able to maintain a professional and friendly attitude, keeping the reputation of the European Cancer Organisation into consideration at all times
  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with effective and efficient writing skills in English (native or nearnative level)
