EDR Antwerp shipyard is the largest shipyard in Belgium, specialized in ship maintenance and repairs, hull treatment, and marine construction.

EDR Antwerp Shipyard is looking for a motivated individual who will work directly with our Prevention Department to oversee worksite safety in our growing facility. This individual will spend their day on board the ships while at dry docks for repairs, walking throughout the different parts of the ship to ensure safe worksite conditions.

  • Supervise and monitor daily activities on board the vessels to ensure safe working practices
  • Daily survey and inspection of a variety of working environments on board and on docks. Ensuring compliance with promulgated safety and health regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Facilitating correction of hazards and infractions found or ceasing operations until properly corrected.
  • Evaluates the worksite to identify job hazards and establish appropriate controls that can encompass the full range of occupational safety and health hazards related to the ship repair work environment
  • Help in the evaluation of the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment to identify potential unsafe conditions that need improvement
  • Innovate and support ongoing efforts to continually improve worker safety in collaboration with Prevention advisors and other supervisors.
  • Ensure that all tasks are performed safely: wearing safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and other items such as Safety belt or outerwear as appropriate
  • Counsel employees and contractors on safe working practices, both in formal and informal encounters during the workday
  • Report and track injuries, incidents, and nearmisses
  • Keep the records and documentation of daily safety meetings with ships personnel
  • Use the related company checklists during the inspections and maintain a proper filing of the documents
  • Maintain storage and disposal records of oil water and hazardous and nonhazardous wastes

Profil:

.Basic knowledge of ships and the name of different locations on board

.Outstanding service orientation; sense of urgency; high-level of personal integrity

.Strong interpersonal skills and communicative

.Must be able to read and write in English and possess good writing skills. Bilingual (Dutch-English) Skills is a Plus but not required

.Able to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks in an unsupervised manner

.Ability to work independently, but a strong effective team player mentality is a must

.Must be able to adapt quickly to changing scenarios

.Good judgment and decision-making skills; Lead by example.

.Must have reliable attendance, willing to work flexible hours, & work well with others

.Physical ability to climb from ships ladders and inspect the confined spaces such as fuel tanks and or highly located areas such as ship's cranes
