Position Summary:
RAND Europe is a not-for-profit policy research organisation. Our mission is to help improve policy
- and decision-making through evidence-based research and analysis. We realise our mission by undertaking objective, balanced and relevant research, sharing the insights and information widely, and working in partnership with a range of clients and collaborators.


RAND Europe has offices in Cambridge and Brussels, and employs approximately 140 researchers: just over half of our research staff have doctorates with the balance holding other post-graduate degrees.

Our work lies on the continuum between that of universities and consultancies, combining the academic rigour of universities and the professional, task orientated approach of consultancies.

Our Brussels office hosts 12 members of staff and is primarily involved in research, business development and outreach for the EU institutions and other Brussels based organisations.


RAND Europe is pleased to host the 16th annual ISSDP Conference, an international conference bringing together scholars committed to advancing drug policy research and policymakers interested in evidence-based drug policy from across the globe.


The traineeship is designed to assist in the organisation of this academic conference and will offer exposure to the various activities of organising an international event.

The assignment is an ideal position for recent or soon to be university graduate into the practical aspects of organising an international conference.

This experience will provide valuable insights and useful contacts for your future career.

Key Responsibilities:
You will be expected to support research staff in coordinating the event, scientific and logístical aspects of organising the three-day conference in May/June 2023, including:

  • Helping to establish scientific program
  • Helping to select abstracts and allocate speakers to the program
  • Communicating regularly with speakers and delegates
  • Assisting with the selection of posters and confirm poster presenters
  • Coordinating with venue owners, caterers, and other suppliers; offer onsite support at the conference.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • You will have an outstanding academic record (Master's degree or equivalent) and proven expertise in event management.
  • You will have excellent writing and communication skills
  • Fluency in English is an absolute requirement.
  • Additional Dutch and/or French language skills are an asset.
  • A keen interest in drug policy research, familiarity with basic research principles is desirable but not essential to the duties of the role.
Duration: 6 months (possibility for extension if approved by Brussels Formation)

Remuneration:
€1,200 gross per month
