PhD position in the field of Sound Quality of Acoustic Metamaterials

The research topics at SISW include structural dynamics, acoustics, aeronautics and aerospace, durability, materials and numerical solvers, among others.

The Acoustics research team in the Test Division in Leuven is offering a PhD position in the field of meta materials for vibration and sound reduction as part of the METAVISION doctoral training network.

About the METAVISION European project

PhD track

The goals of the PhD are:

to develop a model-based framework for the experimental characterisation of meta-materials,

- to develop a psychoacoustic pleasantness model suited for meta-materials,
- to guide material design from specific psychoacoustic targets through optimization techniques and machine learning
- to validate the findings using acoustic measurements, sophisticated signal processing and listening tests.

Profile
- a master's degree in engineering, physics or mathematics,
- knowledge and/or experience with at least one of the following: acoustics, signal processing, mathematical modelling, experimental methods in acoustics.
- proficiency in written and spoken English,
- knowledge of a scientific computing language such as Python, GNU Octave or Matlab,
- the ability to work independently and to cooperate with other researchers,
- the ability to perform research in a scientifically meticulous and structured manner,
- an interest to present the work at international conferences and write scientific papers.
