We are looking for:


  • The Battery Materials Growth Platform has built a clear industrial roadmap to materialize Solvay's ambitions of growth in the Battery Materials market. To achieve the agreed 2.5 B€ of additional sales, it materializes in an ambitious CAPEX investment plan.
  • As Technical Leader, you will provide ongoing support for several technical projects primarily located at the chemical manufacturing operation at Solvay La Rochelle (Rhodia Operations) France.
  • You will be actively involved in the review and scaleup of new technologies for the manufacture of materials supporting the Battery Materals Growth Platform. This includes the design, specification, installation, startup and commencement of operations.
  • The Technology Development Manager (TDM) will play a lead role in ensuring the processes are ready for industrialization and that necessary Process Safety reviews and Industrial Function challenges have been satisfactorily completed to support successful project execution.

  • Act as a bridge in technology transfer from the Research and Innovation Center, Pilot scale and Full scale demonstration of Industrialization.
  • Identify and implement the most competitive production technologies.
  • Ensure compliance of production processes with all applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Understand business and customer requirements in making decisions around project path.
  • Support the Project Director and the platform Head of Industrialization in Technical / Technology Areas and helps to establish clear alternatives and the ultimate project path.
  • Validate the process and technology choices through the end of the R&I work as well as during the Stage Gate Process for Capital projects. Ensures proper documentation is available with respect to the Process Book, raw material and finished product specifications, P&IDs, equipment selection, control philosophy and Quality Control plan.
  • Manages the risk related to the chosen technology package. Leads the project risk assessment at the different stages of the project and ensures proper and timely completion of required challenges to support the necessary project funding authorizations.
  • Support the start up of the new project/process and leads the necessary technical decision making. Evaluates new facility performance to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Perform technological watch and competitive intelligence.
  • Anticipate technology gaps and initiate the appropriate programs to close the gaps.

You will bring:


  • Bachelor's Level Degree or Equivalent in Chemical Engineering or Industrial Chemistry
  • Minimum of 12 years of industrial work experience
  • Bilingual (French / English) at Business / Technical level
  • Direct experience in
    inorganic reaction chemistry and inorganic materials processing:
  • Previous experience as responsible for a Chemical Manufacturing operation of medium to high complexity and hazard level.
  • Alternately, would have held the role of Site Engineering / Technical Manager responsible for both Capital project execution as well as New Production Introduction or process scaleup activities.
  • Pragmatic approac to solve burning issues and long term challenges
  • Solution driven and Results oriented
  • Great collaborative mindset to work closely with the different stakeholders (Labs, Pilots, Industrial teams)
  • Strong project planning and execution skills
  • Ability to lead Change Initiatives and understand the impact of Change on Safety and Quality
  • Fast learner of new technologies
  • Able to effectively communicate with various levels of the organization
