Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
British Diplomatic Missions in Brussels are part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas, and are now recruiting for a
Defence & Security Trade Adviser.
As part of the DBT Benelux Defence & Security team, the jobholder will play a leading role in supporting UK defence & security exports to NATO's principal procurement agencies - NCIA & NSPA.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Support UK defence & security exports to NATO's procurement agencies, principally NCIA & NSPA by providing tailored advice and market intelligence to UK business;
- Identify, promote and track NATO business opportunities for UK industry;
- Collaborate with British companies to ensure they are as competitive and prepared as possible to win business, including with pipeline development and early planning;
- Build and manage a network of stakeholders and partners in NATO, UK government and UK defence industry;
- Work closely with MoD & FCDO colleagues in London and Brussels in pursuit of trade objectives in NATO;
- Contribute to business planning and delivery in support of business services to companies;
- Attend and engage industry at major defence trade fairs;
- Organise UK industry days and other relevant events at NATO;
- Lead and deliver visit programmes for senior UK and NATO delegates;
- Work with different teams in multiple locations and also with commercial partners as part of structured campaign activity;
- Contribute to the work of the trade team ensuring the delivery of agreed and set trade team targets, including pipeline development and export wins;
- Contribute to the wider economic diplomacy agenda of the British Embassy.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Fluency at C1 level in English according to CEFR framework*, or equivalent;
- A good knowledge of the defence and security sector and especially the UK defence & security industry;
- A good knowledge of NATO's procurement agencies and their processes;
- Excellent organisational, presentation, drafting and networking skills
- A proactive and entrepreneurial attitude;
- Excellent teamwork and stakeholder management skills;
- Effective time management: able to handle the multiple priorities of the role within agreed deadlines;
- Strong account management experience and excellent customer relation building skills. The ability to deal with senior level business contacts;
- Strong event organisation and project management skills;
- Good IT skills;
- Flexibility for occasional out of hours work and travel.
- Business level (B2) in French and/or Dutch according to CEFR framework*, or equivalent;
- Good knowledge of NATO political and military structures and procedures;
- Experience working with UK business, especially in the area of defence & security;
- Experience in a business development or trade/investment promotion discipline;
- Experience of dealing with business in an international context;
- Experience working in a military environment;
- Knowledge of Belgian Defence and its defence industry;
- Driving licence an experienced driver.

This is a permanent full-time contract for 5 working days hours net) per week. The monthly gross salary for this position is € 4,874.20, Executive Officer (EO) level.
Passport:
officers are expected to be in possession of a passport due to the possibility that they may be asked to undertake business travel.
